Poor Derek Peth got dumped by Demi Burnett on last night’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise, but things are looking up for the 32-year-old star. *Cough, season 24 of The Bachelor, cough*
After this week’s two-night installment aired on ABC, fans wasted no time starting a Twitter campaign for Derek to become the next Bachelor.
If you haven’t been watching (or totally tuned out), Derek originally hit it off with Demi on Bachelor in Paradise. A few episodes into the season, Demi told him that she had been dating a woman named Kristian prior to coming on the show.
In a total Bachelor move, Hannah Brown showed up out of nowhere, pulled Demi aside and encouraged her friend to think about whether she wanted to continue her relationship with Derek.
After some thought, Demi ended things with Derek to pursue Kristian, who just so happened to arrive in Mexico when the drama began. (Go figure.)
When Derek’s split with Demi aired on ABC, Twitter immediately blew up with praise for his Bachelor potential.
Some users pointed out Derek’s uncanny resemblance to Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) from The Office, writing, “We stan @PethDerek as the next Jim Halpert. I mean #bachelor.” While others said what we’re all thinking: “Not to be dramatic…but like if @PethDerek is not the Bachelor I will riot in the streets.”
Even BiP bartender Wells Adams couldn’t help but share an “appreciation” video for his “bourbon drinking buddy.”
He captioned the post, “#derekforbachelor Appreciation video for my roommate on the @bacheloretteabc. My bourbon drinking buddy. My bestie from the TV world and honestly the one of the best guys I’ve ever met. We don’t deserve @pethderek.”
