‘First Man’ Dethrones ‘Blade Runner 2049’ for Best Visual Effects

Next on the podium are this year’s most visually appealing films.

Tonight, the 91st annual Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. During the ceremony, First Man won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

The film was up against Avengers: Infinity War, Christopher Robin, Ready Player One and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The Best Visual Effects category has gone through multiple name changes—it used to be called Best Engineering Effects, Best Special Effects and Best Special Visual Effects. Previous winners include Blade Runner 2049, The Jungle Book, Ex Machina, Interstellar, Gravity, Life of Pi, Hugo and Inception.
