Alexis Ohanian Reveals to Wife Serena Williams Why He Stepped Down from Reddit Board: ‘To Make a Better World for Olympia’

“This was not an easy decision at all,” he said. “I thought about what I could do beyond a social media post, beyond a donation.”

Ohanian admitted, “This was not an easy decision at all.” However, he hopes his stepping down will lead to change within the organization, adding, “We need diversity at the highest levels of business now more than ever. Once I realized why I needed to do it, it became very easy.”

In addition to his resignation, the Reddit co-founder pledged $1 million to Colin Kaepernick’s nonprofit Know Your Rights Camp. He’ll also donate a portion of Reddit’s future profits to help the Black community.

“I thought about what those dollars could do for a community that has clearly suffered for far too long, and that I—with my power and my influence and my privilege—want to do something meaningful to start to show a change. To make a better world for Olympia,” he said, referring to his 2-year-old daughter.
