I Smelled Over 40 Yankee Candles in a Row and This Was by Far My Favorite for Fall

And it's not anything pumpkin-spiced

I had zero plans to sniff my way through every candle at Yankee Candle’s relaunch… but sometimes the universe (and a friend running late) has other ideas. So, naturally, I took it upon myself to smell every scent on the shelf. And let me tell you: totally worth it.

If you haven’t heard, Yankee Candle just gave their iconic collection a major refresh. The goal? To elevate the candle-burning experience and help people reconnect with joy through the emotive power of fragrance. The upgraded line features a premium plant-based wax blend for a longer, cleaner burn, more consistent scent from start to finish and sleeker packaging that actually looks chic on your shelf.

There are 95 fragrances in the full Yankee Candle collection but my local store had about half—which still felt like a lot when you’re on sniff number 47.

That said, I will note that I noticed something surprising as I sniffed my way through the store: no headache, no scent fatigue and no need for a desperate whiff of coffee beans in between. Usually, a sniff session like this would leave me tapping out early. Chalk it up to the new formula? I don’t know but I’m not mad at being able to smell good things nonstop.

Getting back to favorites, of course, the OG fan-favorite is still going strong: Macintosh.

Macintosh is their fresh take on apple picking season with notes of apple peels, juicy fruit and a little clove and musk. It’s crisp, it’s classic, it’s fall in a jar. But, not my fave for fall.

Full disclosure: I am a huge pumpkin girl. I unapologetically love all things pumpkin and fully support the early arrival of PSL season. So you’d think my top pick would be pumpkin-adjacent. And don’t get me wrong—Spiced Pumpkin, Apple Pumpkin, Pumpkin Maple Crème Caramel and Pumpkin Banana Scone all made a very compelling case.

But surprisingly… the one that completely stole my heart (and nose) wasn’t pumpkin at all.

My favorite fall scent is… Autumn Wreath.

This candle boasts top notes of green leaf and apple, middle notes of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, and a warm base of woody notes and vanilla. And when I say it’s my favorite, I mean I’ve burned it every single day since I got it. It’s still going strong, too—Yankee candles offer up to 150 hours of burn time and I can say confidently that's true.

The Autumn Wreath scent makes it hard not to strike a match. The smell instantly fills my apartment and gives me that warm, fuzzy “fall is here” feeling.

Picture this: snuggled up on the couch, blanket on, window cracked to let in a crisp breeze and Autumn Wreath circulating in the air while you binge the latest show everyone’s talking about. Yeah—it's a whole vibe.

Whether you're a fan of Macintosh, Autumn Wreath, Pumpkin-whatever or some other scent, the new Yankee Candle is something you'll want to get your hands on.
