I’m a fall-in-New-York person to my core. My favorite season lived in my grandparents’ apartment on the Upper East Side—pumpkin-lined brownstones, yellow foliage in Central Park, a bag of cinnamon-sugar donuts from the Donut Pub. That’s the palette I chase in a candle: pumpkin without the pie crust; cedar and oak from the trees; cinnamon that reads hot-cider-and-bakery-bag. And when it comes to finding those notes in the wild? Anthropologie is my Mecca: the place where cult classic scents (read: Capri Blue) mingle with seasonal exclusives—pumpkin-shaped vessels, whiffs of cedar leaf and oak and ghost candles that double as Halloween decor. So, in the interest of journalism (and to reclaim a sense of my youth), I went downtown and sniffed every jar on the floor.

Below, find my definitive ranking of the best Anthro candles to stock up on fall (that’ll last you through Christmas).

First up: A candle that immediately makes it October in my apartment (even in August). It reminds me of weekend drives to apple orchards growing up—the crisp bite of Honeycrisp in the air, leaves crunching underfoot. In fact, it’s the perfect fall scent without tipping into that predictable pumpkin-vanilla lane. The body is juicy and bright, like biting into a fresh apple, with soft oakwood grounding it into something woodsy and sophisticated. The white amber also offers just enough warmth to make the whole thing feel cozy but never cloying. I have the XS size (31 hours), and it’s lasted me way longer than I expected… but the medium (72 hours) is calling my name for those nights when I want the entire living room to smell like an orchard when October rolls around.

Fast Facts

  • Scent notes: crisp, falling leaves; ripe orchard fruits; soft oakwood; glowing white amber
  • Burn time: XS: 31 hours, M: 72 hours

If Anthropologie ever made a candle that doubled as heirloom decor, this would be it. The vessel is hand-carved from mango wood with a gleaming glass stem, making it feel less like seasonal styling and more like something you treasure year after year. As for the scent: The toasted pumpkin has a roasted, almost nutty depth, layered with sweet honey and black walnut that make it richer than your average pumpkin spice. A touch of orange zest keeps it from feeling too heavy, brightening things up with just enough sparkle, while warm spices round it out into something cozy and enveloping. I picture this burning on a dining table during Thanksgiving—the kind where the candlelight and scent alone set the mood before the food even hits the table. With 66 hours of burn time, it’s a true statement piece: one you light for an occasion and leave on display long after the flame has gone out.

Fast Facts

  • Scent notes: toasted pumpkin, honey, black walnut, orange zest, warm spice
  • Burn time: 66 hours

I first discovered this candle in high school while working for an interior designer, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Every fall, Baltic Amber sneaks back into my rotation like clockwork—warm sandalwood and cedarwood layered with golden amber that instantly makes a space feel sultry and lived-in. It’s less about fresh-air autumn and more about sinking into a velvet armchair with a glass of red wine—the kind of scent that instantly changes the mood of a room. I love how the richness lingers even after I blow it out, and it never feels too heavy or powdery. While the XS size (20 hours) has been great for my desk, the medium (100 hours) is the one that earns its spot in my living room—its throw can cover an entire evening, and the embossed glass jar looks more like decor than candle.

  • Scent notes: sandalwood, cedarwood, amber
  • Burn time: XS: 20 hours, M: 100 hours

If you’ve ever stepped foot in an Anthro store, you know the Capri Blue Volcano scent—it’s practically their namesake. Spiced Cider is the fall spin on that same cult-favorite energy, only cozier. The first whiff is sparkling berry fruit, bright and juicy, which quickly warms into cinnamon and spiced apple—like mulled cider simmering on the stove. Vanilla and Canadian fir anchor the base, adding a creamy sweetness and a whisper of evergreen that makes it feel festive without screaming “holiday.” It somehow manages to be playful and cozy at the same time—the kind of candle I’d light when friends are coming over and I want my apartment to smell instantly inviting. Plus, the matte glass vessel with its brushed champagne-gold interior makes it feel special enough to leave out on the counter all season long. With an 85-hour burn time, it’s basically fall in a jar…that lasts until winter.

Fast Facts

  • Scent notes: berry fruit, spiced fruit, cinnamon, vanilla, fir
  • Burn time: 85 hours

Pumpkin candles can so easily veer into cupcake-sweet territory, but this one feels grown-up in the best way. The malted pumpkin note is rich and velvety—like the filling of a pumpkin pie that’s just been pulled from the oven—while the dark rum swirls in a boozy warmth that makes it feel decadent, not sugary. Cedarwood and amber temper the sweetness, grounding it with a woodsy, smoky depth. The overall effect is less pumpkin spice latte and more cozy after-dinner drink by the fire. Not to mention: the hand-blown glass pumpkin—complete with a playful stem—reads more like a seasonal collectible than a candle jar. With ~19 hours of burn time, it’s a short-lived indulgence, but one that doubles as a décor piece you’ll want to display long after the wick burns out.

  • Scent notes: malted pumpkin, dark rum, cedarwood, amber
  • Burn time: 19 hours

One whiff of this and I was immediately transported to a cabin with a fire crackling in the corner. The first thing I noticed was the crisp sweetness of Red Delicious apple—it has that sun-dappled orchard vibe, bright and almost sparkling—quickly followed by ginger and cinnamon that give it just the right amount of spice. There’s also the bourbon, which adds this rich, boozy depth, mellowed by vanilla and amber so it lingers soft and cozy. It’s layered in a way that feels more like curling up by a fire than walking into a bakery, which I love—comforting, but not overly sweet. If you’re someone who wants their space to smell like fall without leaning into pumpkin-spice overload, this is the candle I’d point you to. And with a 45-hour burn time and luxe amber glass vessel, it’s the kind you’d want to keep on display (and maybe stock a backup of before it inevitably sells out).

Fast Facts

  • Scent notes: Red Delicious apple, ginger, cinnamon, bourbon, vanilla, amber
  • Burn time: 45 hours

Here, another Voluspa candle I’ve been lighting year after year. The vanilla is the first thing to hit—warm and velvety, like cracking open a jar of vanilla from an overpriced gourmet market. But it doesn’t linger in cupcake territory; there’s this golden, almost burnt-sugar edge that takes it somewhere sexier. I’ll light it in the corner of my living room and suddenly everything feels a little more grown-up—like I have a jazz record spinning in the background (when in reality, I’m watching Mad Men for the umpteenth time). It’s comforting, yes, but also undeniably chic—the glass/gold etched vessel is as timeless as the fragrance itself. The smaller size gives you about 60 hours of glow, while the large stretches to 100—enough to carry you through an entire season of cozy nights.

  • Scent notes: bourbon vanilla bean, golden warmth
  • Burn time: S: 60 hours, L: 100 hours

A candle that doubles as Halloween decor? Say less. Inspired by the TikTok-viral Icon Juice Glasses, this hand-printed design is just as collectible. The black-and-cream spotted glass, complete with tiny white ghosts peeking out, is crafted using hand-pressed glass beads (just like the glasses). And the scent inside is just as bewitching: saffron and cinnamon spark up first, like the first crackle of logs catching in the fireplace. Then comes the richness—maple, nutmeg and tonka bean—before settling into smooth amber and birchwood, grounding the sweetness with an earthy depth. It’s cozy, a little mysterious, and surprisingly refined—like a haunted house party lit by candlelight. With 40 hours of burn time, it’ll see you through the whole spooky season (and beyond).

Fast Facts

  • Scent notes: cinnamon, cedarwood, maple, nutmeg, amber, saffron, tonka bean, birchwood
  • Burn time: 40 hours

I know, another pumpkin candle—but this one is as close as you can get to dessert in a jar. Imagine a warm pumpkin soufflé fresh out of the oven, its edges caramelized with browned butter and toasted nutmeg, topped with a swirl of vanilla cream and brown sugar. That’s exactly what this smells like: indulgent, spiced and cozy without being too cloying. I can picture lighting it after hosting a dinner party, when you want the house to smell like you spent all afternoon baking (without having to actually pull out a mixing bowl). The hand-painted glass vessel is a showpiece all on its own—a little work of art perched on its pedestal, with florals that nod to old-world ceramics. At 46 hours of burn time, it also earns a permanent spot on the coffee table, both for the scent and the design.

  • Scent notes: pumpkin soufflé, browned butter, toasted nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla cream, brown sugar
  • Burn time: 46 hours

This one reminds me of coming home from a chilly walk, cheeks still pink, shrugging off my coat to warm up by the fire. The first hit is citrusy—bright lemon and petitgrain that cut through the heaviness of fall—then it settles into an earthy blend of amber, sandalwood and cypress that feel grounding and serene. The dry-down of cedarwood and musk also makes it surprisingly sophisticated; it lingers in the air long after the flame is out. And of course, the design is as considered as the scent: poured into a glass vessel with clean lines and a subtle, embossed label, it looks more objet d’art than decor filler. The XS size (about 20 hours) is a perfect “test drive,” the medium runs around 40 hours and the large will carry you through an entire season at 75 hours.

Fast Facts

  • Scent notes: citrus fruit, amber, sandalwood, cedarwood, musk
  • Burn time: XS: 20 hours, M: 40 hours, L: 75 hours
