Summer is upon us, and that means we’re about to start needing our air conditioners more than ever. Luckily, there’s a new one on the market and everyone is trying to get their hands on it.
Within 24 hours of launching, Windmill, a new smart A/C unit you stick in your window and control with your phone, amassed a waitlist consisting of thousands. We’re serious.
According to a press release, the company “tapped experts with 60 years of AC experience—marrying more than half a century of learnings with a modern approach to consumer convenience and tech-forward innovation.”
The result? A high-tech (not to mention, aesthetically pleasing) window unit that’s smart-phone compatible, eco-friendly and won’t keep you up at night with all of the noise. Per Windmill, the device provides you with healthy air by using “double filtration.” It’s important to note that the cartridges used for this system will need to be replaced and can be done through a monthly subscription delivery.
The brand officially launched a waitlist for the first-run edition on June 17, which has already amassed over 3,000 eager names so far. It will begin shipping nationwide this summer in conjunction with TaskRabbit, who will offer a range of installation services.
Co-founded by third-generation AC engineer Ryan Figlia and entrepreneur Mike Mayer, Forbes calls the unit the “iPhone of air conditioners.” Production is ramping up and you can preorder the high-tech cooling system for $395. We think we’ll give this one a shot.
