If you’ve ever stepped on a sticky patch of milk your toddler spilled hours ago—or spotted muddy paw prints right after you mopped—you know the Sisyphean battle of keeping floors clean. Traditional mops leave streaks, Swiffers burn through disposable pads and don’t even get me started on waiting for floors to dry. But the TikTok viral Shark Steam & Scrub Mop promises to change all that. Scrubbing, sanitizing and drying in one go—and it’s safe on all floor types (including sealed hardwood floors) to boot.

To see if it actually lives up to the hype, PureWow’s Director of Affiliate Strategy, Pam Masin, put it through its paces on her hardwood and tile floors. Her verdict? This might just be the busy mom’s (and pet owner’s) new secret weapon.

How it Works

This thing is as straightforward as it looks: Fill the 12.68-ounce water tank, snap on the Dirt Grip scrubbing pads and choose your steam setting. “The mop is pretty much plug and play. I love how there wasn’t a long manual or complicated features to learn,” Masin says. That’s because the controls are stripped down to the essentials: one button that powers on the mop and toggles between two steam levels (light to normal), with an LED indicator to show which mode you’re in. From there, the scrubbing head uses two rotating pads that spin in a circular motion as steam is released, mimicking the motion of hand-scrubbing but without the elbow grease.

“There’s also a trigger under the handle that sprays water out for an extra ‘boost’ when and where you want, as you go,” she adds. Plus, she said it was the design that won her over: “I really love how lightweight and slim it is. I have limited storage space on my first floor, but I’m able to hang this on the wall and out of the way.” At just under 8 pounds, it’s easy to maneuver, and the swivel steering lets you glide around furniture without constantly lifting it.

That said, she did flag one quirk when it came to storage: “You can’t turn the handle, so the mop protrudes off the wall in my storage closet. I wish there were a way you could flatten it against the wall so it doesn’t stick out. Small complaint, but a little annoying.”

Performance Across Surfaces

Shark

Unlike a traditional mop that leaves streaks or requires elbow grease, this one scrubs and steams at the same time thanks to its dual rotating pads. Pam put it through its paces on both hardwood and tile, and she found it could tackle just about anything. “Milk, coffee, pasta sauce, avocado, dried fruit—this mop was able to handle it all on the normal setting,” she says. And while the mop can technically be used without vacuuming first, she noticed a big difference when she did: “I’ve tried using this after I vacuumed/dusted the floors and then one time without doing that, and it performs much better if you vacuum and dust beforehand. The mop does not do a great job with dust…it kinda just pushes it around. But what it does do a great job of is cleaning dirt, grime, stains, etc. I didn’t notice any streaks, since the mop pads move in a circular motion. So cool.”

Plus, as a new mom, the sanitization factor was a standout. Shark’s Steam Blaster technology promises to eliminate 99.9 percent of bacteria with nothing but hot steam—no harsh cleaners needed. “With a 1-year-old baby, I have lots of food and grime stuck on my floors, and this mop has been a game-changer. I love that it cleans without any harsh chemicals and that it sanitizes just as well…it’s a great feature for us as our baby is all over our hardwood floors (crawling, touching everything, licking etc).” Bonus: “I love that I no longer have to bend down and scrub!”

The only drawback: its 18-foot cord. “It’s way too short! I have a relatively small house, but the entire first floor is wood floors, and I can't even go wall to wall in my eat-in kitchen. It's a much smaller cord than my Shark vacuum. The cord needs to be at least a foot longer to really make cleaning absolutely painless (I hate having to unplug and plug it in again as I move throughout my house).”

Drying Time & Pad Maintenance

One of Pam’s favorite features was how quickly her floors dried after cleaning. “I didn't have to wait around and rope off areas to wait and dry. I'd say it took around 30 seconds to a minute for the floors to be completely dry. This makes cleaning SO quick.” That fast turnaround meant she could mop during nap time and have her toddler crawling around again almost immediately, without worrying about slippery floors.

The mop pads also earned high marks for convenience. They’re machine-washable, and the unit comes with two sets so you can always have one ready to go. “The pads are so easy to throw in the laundry, which I love,” Pam explains. “I don’t feel like I'll need to replace them often, as they seem pretty durable and are easy to clean and dry.”

It’s worth mentioning, however, that she had some trouble aligning the circular scrubbing pads with the mop. “There have been a few times where the alignment is slightly off, so the pad doesn’t stick, which is ever so slightly inconvenient to have to do it again.”

The Final Verdict

What We Like

  • 2 steam settings with LED indicator
  • Slim and lightweight (under 8 lbs)
  • Dual rotating pads scrub and steam simultaneously
  • Sanitizes floors with 99.9% bacteria elimination—no chemicals needed
  • Floors dry in under a minute
  • Includes 2 sets of machine-washable pads

What We Don't Like

  • 18-foot cord feels too short for larger spaces
  • Pads can be tricky to align properly
  • Doesn’t pick up dust well—works best after vacuuming

Shark

After testing, Pam says, “It’s as easy and low maintenance as a Swiffer, but it works so much better.” The mop earned a spot in her regular rotation—especially for tackling the sticky, grimy messes that come with having a toddler (and the occasional kitchen spill). It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver and dries floors so quickly that she never has to worry about roping off the kitchen while her baby crawls around. Plus, the sanitizing steam function gives her peace of mind that her floors are actually clean, without harsh chemicals.

But of course, it’s not a magic wand: You’ll still want to vacuum or dust beforehand, and the short cord means some unplugging is inevitable if you’re covering multiple rooms. Yet, for its cleaning power, quick dry time, washable pads—and the fact that it’s under $150—Pam says she’d reach for it over a traditional mop or Swiffer any day.
