Looking for a mattress that doesn’t swallow you whole or retain so much heat you wake up in a puddle of sweat by 3 a.m.? Whether you sleep on your back, crash face-down after a long day or just want something that feels supportive without the synthetic foam smell, the Saatva Latex Hybrid promises breathable comfort in a medium-firm package. Think: natural latex, organic cotton and a hand-tufted top that looks straight out of a boutique hotel.

To see if it actually lives up to the hype, PureWow’s Senior Director of SEO and Product, Sally Herrod, slept on it for three months. Her verdict? Let’s get into it below.

White Glove Delivery

Forget the days of boxed beds that take 72 hours to fluff and still smell like a tire store. Every Saatva mattress includes white glove delivery at no extra cost: “The delivery process was incredible,” Sally backs. “I got both email and text reminders informing me of delivery timelines with clear customer service numbers if I needed to adjust anything. The white glove delivery service staff turned up on time and were friendly and professional…they set the mattress up and took away all the packaging.” Plus, because the mattress is never compressed or rolled, there was zero off-gassing or plasticky odor. It was “ready to sleep on that night.”

Materials & Feel

Saatva

First and foremost, this is a hybrid mattress designed for sleepers who want responsive support without sacrificing breathability. It’s made with layers of natural latex (for bounce and support), organic New Zealand wool (to help with temperature control) and a breathable organic cotton cover that’s soft but not overly plush. “The mattress is definitely comfortable and made from high-quality materials like organic cotton and wool,” Herrod says. “It’s great for people who are looking for a medium firmness with a softer top layer.” It’s also hand-tufted, so instead of being glued together with mystery foams, it’s stitched for structure and long-term durability.

In terms of comfort, Saatva rates this as a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and it’s especially well-suited for back and stomach sleepers—or couples who can’t agree on firmness. (If you tend to wake up with lower back stiffness or joint tension, the design is intended to help with that, too.) And since Herrod usually sleeps hot—“with only a sheet for at least half the year”—she was specifically looking for a mattress that wouldn’t trap heat or feel too plush. “I didn’t want to sink in too much or feel overly cushiony or warm,” she notes. “It’s a medium-firm feel, with enough structure to keep me supported and enough softness on top that it doesn’t feel rigid.”

That said, if you’re used to a smooth memory foam surface, the texture may take a minute to get used to. “This particular mattress is tufted, so there are quite large divots in the surface,” she points out. “They’re designed to relieve pressure off certain points throughout the night and maintain uniformity and durability. But since I'm used to sleeping on memory foam, the tufts took me a while to get used to. If you're unsure if you like tufted mattresses, it might be best to try this out in a showroom first.”

Cooling

Saatva

Despite being marketed as one of Saatva’s more breathable options, this mattress didn’t fully deliver in the cooling department—at least not for Sally, who (again) sleeps hot. “After sleeping on it for a few months with organic cotton sheets as well, I can’t say I noticed it being particularly cool compared to other mattresses I’ve slept on,” she says.

To be fair, the construction includes several elements designed for airflow—namely the layer of moisture-wicking wool, the naturally breathable latex core and the perforated cotton cover—but for very hot sleepers, it might not feel like a dramatic difference. “Because I'm a hot sleeper, I was hoping for something that would noticeably regulate my temperature overnight,” she adds. “It felt breathable, but not actively cooling.” So, while this mattress may help reduce stuffiness or overheating for some, you might want to explore the brand’s graphite mattress topper (or layer in cooling bedding) if you tend to wake up covered in sweat.

The Bottom Line

Pros

  • Medium-firm cushioning with supportive bounce
  • Breathable latex and organic cotton
  • Ideal for stomach and back sleepers
  • White glove delivery + no off-gassing

Cons

  • Didn’t feel noticeably cooler
  • Tufted surface may take some getting used to

Saatva

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a smart pick for back or stomach sleepers, hot sleepers who want better airflow (but not full-on cooling), and anyone looking to invest in high-quality, organic materials. It strikes a true medium-firm balance—structured and supportive without feeling stiff—and it’s especially well-suited for couples with different sleep styles, thanks to its buoyant latex core and zoned lumbar support. Bonus: It ships free with white glove delivery, meaning no unboxing circus or off-gassing delays.

That said, if you’re coming from a flat memory foam mattress, the hand-tufted surface might take some getting used to. And while the materials are breathable, they won’t necessarily cool you down on their own. Still, if comfort, clean materials and long-term durability are high on your list, this guy is absolutely worth the splurge.
