First and foremost, this is a hybrid mattress designed for sleepers who want responsive support without sacrificing breathability. It’s made with layers of natural latex (for bounce and support), organic New Zealand wool (to help with temperature control) and a breathable organic cotton cover that’s soft but not overly plush. “The mattress is definitely comfortable and made from high-quality materials like organic cotton and wool,” Herrod says. “It’s great for people who are looking for a medium firmness with a softer top layer.” It’s also hand-tufted, so instead of being glued together with mystery foams, it’s stitched for structure and long-term durability.
In terms of comfort, Saatva rates this as a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, and it’s especially well-suited for back and stomach sleepers—or couples who can’t agree on firmness. (If you tend to wake up with lower back stiffness or joint tension, the design is intended to help with that, too.) And since Herrod usually sleeps hot—“with only a sheet for at least half the year”—she was specifically looking for a mattress that wouldn’t trap heat or feel too plush. “I didn’t want to sink in too much or feel overly cushiony or warm,” she notes. “It’s a medium-firm feel, with enough structure to keep me supported and enough softness on top that it doesn’t feel rigid.”
That said, if you’re used to a smooth memory foam surface, the texture may take a minute to get used to. “This particular mattress is tufted, so there are quite large divots in the surface,” she points out. “They’re designed to relieve pressure off certain points throughout the night and maintain uniformity and durability. But since I'm used to sleeping on memory foam, the tufts took me a while to get used to. If you're unsure if you like tufted mattresses, it might be best to try this out in a showroom first.”
