If there’s one thing I’ve learned from years of working with interior designers, it’s that a good accent chair walks a fine line: It has to look sculptural, feel inviting, and hold its own against a $10,000 custom sofa—without actually costing one-tenth of your renovation budget. That’s why I did a double-take when I came across the Kessler Wingback Accent Chair from Target’s Studio McGee collection.

I spotted it while searching for chairs that would cozy up a reading nook without swallowing the room whole. The cream faux-shearling caught my eye first (a soft, nubby texture that feels fresh but timeless), though it also comes in olive and light brown velvet if you’re after something warmer and moodier. And unlike most accent chairs that feel like set dressing, this one’s actually comfortable.

Inside, the seat cushion is filled with dense foam that holds its shape but still has enough give to feel cushy after hours of sitting.“So soft! Love the color, the texture and the modern look, simple and high quality…It definitely will be at my reading spot; it is very comfortable and firm,” one reviewer writes.

And for anyone worried about mess: “The sherpa is amazingly soft and doesn't stain easily, even with my super messy kids. It's made well and sturdy,” another person wrote. Pair it with the matching ottoman, and you have a full lounge setup that looks designer (without the markup).

In fact, several reviewers have pointed out how similar it is to high-end versions from brands like Jenni Kayne and Pottery Barn. One shopper wrote, “There is a [similar] Jenni Kayne one for almost 1k. Great piece.” (Editor's Note: That Kayne style is actually going for $3,995.) Another added, “I loved the one at Pottery Barn...so I took the chance [on the Kessler]. I love it! So comfortable and fits me perfectly. Could not believe the price.”

TL;DR: If you want something soft but structured, stylish but durable, and under $500? Don’t overthink it—just add to cart.
