Is Billie Eilish Vegan? Plus 10 Other Celebs You Didn't Know Were Plant-Based

Billie Eilish is not a closed book. The singer has been open about everything from her choices regarding her unique, edgy style to the musicians she'd love to collaborate with and her relationship with her brother/writing partner, Finneas O'Connell. But what about her diet? The question “is Billie Eilish vegan?” has been posed before, so we did a little investigation into this FAQ.

Turns out Eilish wrote in a 2018 Tumblr post that she made the decision to go vegan—meaning she stripped all animal products, including meat, dairy and eggs, from her diet—in 2014. “There were a lot of reasons,” she wrote in response to a fan asking why she made the switch to vegan. “I love animals and I just think there’s no point in creating something out of an animal when the animal is already there. Leave animals alone. Damn. Also, I’m lactose intolerant and dairy is horrible for your skin and my skin is VERY aware of that.”

Eilish, who was raised vegetarian, took to Instagram last year to further explain her dedication to a vegan lifestyle to her more than 26 million followers by sharing undercover footage from an Indiana dairy farm that supplies Fairlife, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola, which claims to produce a “premium” line of milk with “grass to glass” traceability.

"If you can watch the videos that I just posted and not give a f—k that it’s YOU contributing by LITERALLY EATING the creatures that are being fully tortured just for your pleasure. I feel sorry for you,” she wrote.

It seems as if many other famous faces share in Eilish’s decision to remove any and all animal products from their diets, including the 10 other celebs we didn’t realize were plant-based, too.

1. Meghan Markle

Our favorite ex-member of the royal family does veganism just like she lives the rest of her life—on her own terms. Meghan Markle called herself a “part-time vegan,” in an interview with Best Health in 2016. “I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends,” she said.

2. Ariana Grande

Similar to Eilish’s reasoning, Ariana Grande told The Mirror in 2014 that she made the decision to go vegan because of her love for animals. “I love animals more than I love most people,” she said. “It is tricky dining out, but I just stick to what I know—veggies, fruit, and salad—then when I get home, I’ll have something else.”

3. Danielle Brooks

The Orange is the New Black actress went vegan in order to teach herself how to eat well. “(I never learned) how to eat properly, how food is fuel,” she said during an appearance on The Chew in 2017. So this is my way of teaching myself how to eat properly, how to eat to live, I guess.”

4. Ellie Goulding

After being a vegan for six years, the singer told The Cut, “There’s actually more protein in greens than meat. Once I fully understood where meat came from I found that concept quite hard to live with. I’ll definitely never eat fish or meat again."

The former heavyweight boxing champion lost 100 pounds after making the choice to go vegan in 2010. “Becoming a vegan gave me another opportunity to live a healthy life,” he said to Oprah.

6. Jessica Chastain

Oscar-winner Jessica Chastain became a convert after only two weeks on a vegan diet. “I just had more energy than I’ve ever had in my life,” she told W Magazine in 2017. “Being vegan was not anything I ever wanted to be. I just really was listening to what my body was telling me.”

7. Michelle Pfeiffer

The actress credits veganism for her gorgeous complexion. “Eating a vegan diet—it’s just so much healthier—and you avoid a lot of toxins that could age your skin and your body,” she told Urbanette. “I really noticed a difference in my skin not too long after switching to fully vegan.”

8. Jared Leto

The musician and actor admitted to GQ that he still has “plenty of vices” but indulging in a burger isn't one of them. “I’m pretty healthy,” he said. “I’ve been that way for a long time—20 solid years of eating vegetarian/vegan and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process.”

9. Kat Von D

Makeup maven Kat Von D told Compassionate Living Magazine that being vegan “taught me to look past myself—to consider how my choices affect others—the animals, the people around me, and the planet we live on.”

10. Zac Efron

The teen (and adult) heartthrob credited his ridiculous physique to a vegan diet in an interview with Teen Vogue in 2018. “(Veganism) completely changed the way that my body works, and the way that I metabolize food, the way it turns into energy, the way that I sleep. It’s been brilliant. It’s been great for my exercise, and great for my routine,” Efron explained.
