Cinnabon & Carvel Are Launching a New Store, Cinnabon Swirl—Here's Your Sneak Peek of the Menu

A revolutionary idea

It might be predictable, but when I'm at my lowest, the answer to all of my problems is ice cream. Pints, gallons, bars—you name it, I've probably tried it. But nothing compares to a Carvel Dasher with its creamy soft serve and mix-ins. And even more so when there's an attached Cinnabon store (because why choose between brunch treats and soft serve?!). Sweet tooths can rejoice, because Cinnabon and Carvel have teamed up to help you enjoy the best of both worlds more easily, with the launch of Cinnabon Swirl locations—a brick and mortar storefront that reimagines ways to combine both brands' classic menu items. I'm talking things like ice cream-stuffed 'bons and cinnamon roll-flavored ice cream sandwiches.

Their first store is set to open in May in Hillsboro, OR, with 29 more locations to follow worldwide, including Pasadena, CA, Peoria, AZ, and Kennesaw, GA. I was able to try some of the exclusive menu items, and they don't disappoint. Read on for my full review, along with original photos of three key treats.

1. Cinnabon Crunch Ice Cream Sandwich

Carvel's vanilla soft serve is topped with Cinnabon caramel, then sandwiched between two chocolate chip cookies. The edge of the ice cream sandwich is then rolled in Cinnabon Carvel Crunchies, and wow, is it decadent. With delectable flavors of sweet vanilla ice cream, cinnamon-y spices and fudgy cookies, you're getting the whole shebang when it comes to their ice cream sandwich. It's quite big and chewy and slightly challenging to eat without making a mess as the ice cream melts. The cinnamon flavors definitely poke through, but PureWow editorial assistant Courtney Mason, who taste-tested with me, thought that there was a stronger chocolate chip flavor that overpowers the rest of the treat. She thought it might fair better with a sugar cookie because the flavors clashed for her. I, on the other hand, loved the chocolate/cinnamon marriage, but agreed that it was quite rich and heavy. Regardless of preference though, it was a winner, and if they ever open an NYC location (fingers crossed), I'll be ordering this often.

2. Cinnabon Bonini

The Bonini, a play on Cinnabon and panini, is exactly that. A Cinnabon classic roll serves as the "bread" sandwiching Carvel vanilla soft serve, and the whole thing is pressed like a panini. I never knew that adding ice cream to a Bon would make it taste better, but now that I've tried it, I can confirm it does indeed. Definitely make sure to eat it fast when you order because the Bon starts to harden once it's cooled from the ice cream post-heat press. Our only real qualm was with the Cinnabon-to-ice-cream ratio. The Bon could've been a bit smaller to accommodate the size of the soft serve puck so that it doesn't get lost in the bready texture of the Bon. The flavor of the ice cream does enhance the Bon and gives it a creamier texture that is otherwise missing due to the lack of cream cheese frosting that I've come to expect on Cinnabon's rolls. With a little more glaze or perhaps a cream cheese-flavored soft serve, this definitely would've gotten a solid 10/10. Despite this, both Mason and I loved digging into this gooey, creamy delight.

3. Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream

Made with chocolate ice cream and filled with layers of chocolate fudge and chocolate chips, this packed pint is for the chocolate fanatics. Rich and creamy, the entire carton was consumed all in one sitting. The chocolate chips added a lovely crunch to what was otherwise a very smooth concoction. Cracking through the top layer of chocolate was a magical experience, but I was most excited by the indulgent fudge I found in the center. It might not be for everyone given its concentration of chocolatey goodness, but it was definitely for me. I lapped up every spoonful.

All three creations are only available at Cinnabon Swirl stores, but as they open nationwide, it might be worth planning a road trip just to try 'em.
