"Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address." So writes Tom Hanks to the queen of fall herself, Meg Ryan, in what very well may be the coziest rom-com to ever exist, You've Got Mail. A close second, of course, would be When Harry Met Sally, another Nora Ephron-penned flick starring Ryan and her incredible wardrobe of chunky knits, structured blazers and all-wool-everything.
Needless to say, the star is the first person who comes to mind when I—and many other nostalgic movie fans—think of fall fashion. Despite there being a nearly ten-year stretch between the two films (and a couple decades since the latter's box office debut), Ryan's on-screen style has proven timeless, and just as covetable as ever. So, in my quest to dress like the icon of autumn romance herself, I've searched the internet (including a slew of my favorite retailers) to find pieces that emulate Ryan's brainy and bookish brand of leading lady—and the looks that come with it.
