Lou & Grey Signaturesoft Lounge Set Review: Original photos by Stephanie Maida/Loft

As I write this, big, fluffy puffs of snow are falling to the ground outside my window, and I’m curled up on the couch, coffee in hand, wearing the softest lounge set known to man. Or known to me, at least. Could a winter afternoon get much better than this?

I own my fair share of comfy lounge sets (which I wear almost exclusively in the chilly months), but none compare to the Signaturesoft pieces from Lou & Grey at Loft. My go-to? The classic sweatshirt (from $75; $26) and sweatpant (from $75; $26) combo, which I now have in four colors (black, burgundy, green and light blue). A one-and-done solution for both lazy days and taxing travel, this two-piece set is the definition of casual comfort—but I never need to think twice about wearing it to run errands where I may bump into somebody I know. Here’s why I’m obsessed with this Lou & Grey look—and keep coming back for more.

It’s Unbelievably Soft

Lou & Grey

Yes, Signaturesoft is right there in the name, but I couldn’t believe my fingertips the first time I felt this fabric. It’s silky smooth on the outside, fleecy soft on the inside. And despite its undeniable coziness, it is incredibly lightweight and airy; I could wear it just as easily on a January snow day as I can on a cool summer evening, without ever feeling too cold or too hot. The secret is no secret—it’s constructed of a blend of rayon (known for its softness and breathability), acrylic (which feels similar to wool) and spandex (which brings the stretch). Best of all, it keeps its feel even after multiple washes and trips to the dryer.

If I had one little quibble, it’s that the material can get a bit wrinkly if folded (something I don’t really mind if I’m wearing it at home), but it smooths out in seconds with a quick steam.

It’s Slim, Flattering and Petite Friendly

Lou & Grey

Both the sweatshirt and pants drape with a luxurious fluidity, and have a relaxed, but slim shape. I have multiples of both in my regular size medium, and they each fit perfectly (though I could probably get away with a small up top if I were looking for something even more fitted). The pants are particularly flattering, thanks to their slightly tapered silhouette, which comes in towards the ankle. Plus, they feature a thick waistband with a drawcord, so they’re conveniently adjustable.

The pieces lack the bulk and heft of other sweat sets, and can easily be mixed and matched with other tops and bottoms (such as a cami with the sweatpants or leggings with the sweatshirt). This doesn’t just make them more streamlined and versatile, but also means they're especially great for travel, as they supply the same ease and comfort as sweats while taking up far less space in a suitcase.

Better yet, the set is perfect for petites. I’m 5’1” and the standard pant length (26.5 inches) actually hits just below my ankle, so there’s no hemming required. However, both the top and bottoms come in petite sizing (with that pant inseam measuring 24.5 inches long), so if you struggle to find sets that work for your shorter frame, Lou & Grey has got you covered.

Bottom Line: It’s Worth Buying in Multiples

Lou & Grey

Lou & Grey’s Signaturesoft lounge set feels like pajamas, but doesn’t look like I’ve just rolled out of bed (even if I most definitely have). Between the color coordination and the flattering fit, these pieces make a laid-back vibe feel intentional, so there’s no trade-off when it comes to feeling comfortable and looking somewhat put-together. I also love that the bottoms have not two, but four pockets—two deep ones in the front, and two square ones in the back—all of which easily fit my phone, so I can slip it in whether I’m going from room to room or running out for lunch.

Considering the super high-end feel of the pieces, I’d say both the sweatshirt and sweatpants are worth the splurge at their regular price of $75 each, but since Loft always has great sales going on, you can usually catch them for half the price (or less!). Just be warned: As soon as you get your hands on one set, you might want to start hoarding them—and I speak from experience.
