We’ve officially hit peak bag charm era. From Sonny Angels clipped to Prada Re-Editions to LABUBUs dangling off every It Girl’s tote, trinkets are the 2025 version of a status symbol. But here’s the thing: charms aren’t just for bags anymore—they’re for belt loops, iPhones, claw clips… and yes, even your favorite lip gloss.

Whether you’re looking to hop on the charm trend or wish you could attach your Summer Fridays directly to an Apple AirTag, this DIY has you covered. It turns your go-to gloss into a keychain—which means you’ll a) always know where it is, and b) have the chance to flaunt it outside of your brand new belt bag. So below, find a step-by-step guide on how to make one yourself. (Or three Etsy shops that will do it for you…)

Step 1: Poke a Hole

Heat up a pin (a safety pin, sewing needle or pushpin works) and carefully poke it through the sealed edge at the top of your lip gloss tube. You want the hole to be clean and centered—above the product line.

Step 2: Add a Jump Ring

Use tweezers or pliers to loop a jump ring through the hole. Then keep adding more rings to build your chain—how many is up to you, depending on how long or dangly you want the final look to be.

Step 3: Attach a Clip

Once your chain is the length you want, secure a lobster clasp or carabiner to the top. This is what you’ll use to attach the gloss to your bag, keys, belt loop or wherever else you’re feeling bold.

Step 4: Add Charms

Want to add a butterfly, heart, or tiny Evil Eye? Reopen one of the jump rings and slide on whatever charms you’re into. (Or, you can shop some pre-made designs from Etsy that are selling out below…)

Step 5: Close It Up and Clip It On

Secure all the rings, clip your new gloss keychain onto your bag, and bask in the fact that you just made the most unnecessary-yet-necessary accessory of the summer. Congrats—you’re now both stylish and mildly prepared.
