Layered Swimsuit Trend 2026: layered bikini, layered one-pieces swimsuit
Revolve/Skims/Same

There are two things most of us usually ask ourselves when shopping for a swimsuit: (1.) Is it comfortable? (2.) Is it flattering? But this summer, we might want to add a third: Is it Dua Lipa worthy?

Last year, the seemingly always-on-a-beach singer ushered in a unique swimwear trend that's only getting buzzier for summer 2026: layered swimsuits. Just what it sounds like, it involves wearing two (or just one, that’s designed to look like two) pieces, strategically layered for a doubled-up look. Following fashion girls’ penchant for tying bikini tops upside down, it’s a new “wrong way to wear” that feels oh-so right—and very fun.

Luckily, you don’t have to do the work yourself mixing and matching—a bevy of brands have caught on to the trend, and are currently selling swimsuits with the layered look built right in, from Skims to Same. Ahead, shop the most stylish picks.

Thanks to some clever color blocking and a unique neckline, this one-piece looks like a black strapless swimsuit worn over a white V-neck. The jersey fabric, made up of nylon and spandex, is a nice mid-weight, per the brand, so you shouldn’t have to worry about it looking see-through when it gets wet. The cups are unpadded, providing a bit of lift without making your bust too stiff. Similar styles have been selling out at Revolve, so I wouldn’t waste any time before putting this beauty in your cart.

Who would doubt that Kim Kardashian stays up to date on the latest swimwear trends? Her brand Skims has designed the strappiest little bikini that totally nails the layered look. The top features unlined triangle cups (which tie at the neck) beneath more structured underwire cups (with adjustable shoulder straps), while the doubled-up bottoms include both a regular waistband and a tied one. It’s sporty-meets-sexy in the best way. As one reviewer puts it, “very cute and cheeky.” I also appreciate the brand’s inclusive size range; the top is available up to 38 DD, and the bottoms up to a size 4X.

Polka dots are back in a big way this season, especially on swimsuits, so this stringy number can help you embrace two trends in one go. More than 100 Amazon shoppers have picked up the new style this month, which consists of one dotty layer over a solid-colored one. “The colors are spot on, everything is adjustable. Sizing was good,” writes an early reviewer. There are 12 colorway and pattern options to choose from (including gingham and floral versions), so you can find a set that speaks to you—and the vibe of your next vacay.

At $358, this faux suede one-piece is certainly a splurge, but one that I can see being worth the investment. The corseted design boasts boning and underwire support. Translation: You’re guaranteed a seriously figure-snatching fit. The high cut and cheeky bottoms also help to elongate your legs, and an open-back detail just adds to the overall flirty look. It comes in both primarily black and primarily white colorways—the latter would be perfect for a bride-to-be on a bachelorette trip.

If you want to get in on the look but are seeking a bit more coverage from your two-piece, this tankini set from indie label Blackbough Swim has your name written all over it. Aptly called the Gemini, the twinning tank has a subtly layered design with a funky geometric print, and two pairs of adjustable straps. Pair with the matching bottoms, which come complete with double side ties for a customizable fit.
