Just because the seasons change, who says you have to retire your summer favorites? We love seeing pics of Sperling attending the Burghley Horse Trials at Burghley House last autumn with a shearling-style vest layered elegantly over what appears to be a more lightweight cotton style. Not only does it make her warm-weather style a bit more season-proof, but it looks comfortable, cozy and chic, too.

We’ll admit: The mustard yellow hat absolutely makes this look, but its the bold black-and-white houndstooth print on Sperling’s coat that is a stand-out that’s as timeless as it is one-and-done. In other words, a coat like this, which she wore to the Cheltenham Racecourse earlier this year, works without the addition of much else. Frankly, it elevates everything else you’re wearing—a pair of jeans, a chic dress in a neutral hue—without a ton of effort. (OK, bonus points if you throw on a fancy hat.)

There are very few pics of Sperling in attendance at the book launch party for Queen Camilla’s son, Tom Parker-Bowles, held in the fall of last year. But whenever we see Sperling in the crowd (and on the arm of her soon-to-be fiancé, Phillips), we can’t help but notice her style choice. A floral print dress in an autumnal brown hue? You absolutely can’t go wrong. But the decision to wear it with white sneakers underscores her modernity. It also shows off the versatility and appeal of dressing down more formal wear while keeping the overall look pretty and polished.
