I won’t lie, for a long time I thought of Eileen Fisher only as my mom’s favorite place to buy pants. It wasn’t until about five years ago that I found myself visiting the EF showroom and discovering that it’s truly so much more than just a purveyor of great pants. Eileen Fisher has been at the forefront of sustainable fashion since way before it was considered cool or trendy, and excels at designing classic wardrobe staples that feel timeless yet never boring. The materials are top notch, with a real emphasis put on natural fibers, and there’s even a recycling program for when you find it’s time to retire your old Eileen Fisher standbys.

Like mother, like daughter, Eileen Fisher has now become one of my favorite places to pick up wardrobe basics I know I can depend on to fit well and to last for more than just a few seasons. And a recent trip to my local brick-and-mortar store proved that’s still the name of the game for EF. Read on for my thoughts on 12 incredibly chic and comfortable Eileen Fisher pieces perfect for these last few weeks of summer and well in to fall.

1. Eileen Fisher Organic Cotton Pucker Tiered Dress

The vibrant hue of this drop-waist midi dress immediately grabbed my eye upon entering the store. The cotton/elastane fabric has a great texture to it, and helps add some depth to an otherwise fairly simple silhouette. It’s also very lightweight (great for summer heat) but won’t look quite so out of place as linen might come September and October. As for sizing, I typically wear a size medium at Eileen Fisher but thought the small might have been a better fit in the arms for this frock. And, yes, like almost all EF designs it also comes in petite lengths so you can keep that fabulous dropped waist without needing to visit the tailor.

2. Eileen Fisher Washed Organic Cotton Poplin Band Collar Shirt

Eileen Fisher has tons of great oversize button-up shirts (in a wide range of fabrics, I’ll add), but to switch things up I decided to try this band collar silhouette instead. The cuffs were easy to roll if you wanted, and the collar looked great whether I buttoned it all the way up or left two undone for a bit more casual vibe. And I appreciated the fact that the hem is slightly longer in the back, which creates a fabulous shape when untucked but also makes it harder for the shirt to slip out if you do tuck it into the waistband of your pants or skirt. Plus, the cotton is wonderfully lightweight, and yet did not appear sheer. Truly a must-have winner if you’re in the market for a button-up that’s a slight departure from the regular.

3. Eileen Fisher Washed Organic Cotton Poplin Wide-Leg Pant

I have not stopped thinking about these pants since I put them on. They’re made of the same lightweight organic cotton as the button-up shirt and feel like an absolute dream when on. The elastic waistband is incredibly comfortable, can be worn at both the natural waist and the hips and is wide enough that I’m not at all worried about it twisting in the wash. The pockets are deep enough to hold my phone or a smaller wallet. But the thing that really made me fall in love is the wide-leg silhouette—it has just enough volume to feel breezy and fun but won’t overwhelm shorter frames (especially if you opt for a petite size), and I can tell the fabric will maintain that glorious shape no matter what your day has in store. I do wish there was a longer length option for tall gals, but though the 27-inch inseam would still work on my 5’9” frame with ballet flats, sandals or low-profile sneakers.

4. Eileen Fisher Bubble Jacquard Funnel Neck Top

Millennials, this is the grown-up version of those popcorn shirts from our youths that we so adored. Seriously though, the texture is supremely chic and really adds depth to the simple silhouette of this high-neck tank, while. Plus, it gives this top more stretch for added comfort too. While the material is quite lightweight, this tank is definitely a year-round item that can be worn with everything from denim shorts to linen skirts to wool trousers. P.S. It’s also available in white and a grayish brown hue, as well as a black T-shirt silhouette ($138) with a crew neck.

5. Eileen Fisher Bubble Jacquard Pencil Skirt

For those wondering, ye, this midi skirt is just as comfortable as the matching top. The fabric is incredibly stretchy—I tried on a small and was quite comfortable although I usually opt for a medium at Eileen Fisher—and can be worn high up on your natural waist or lower on the hips. There are also petite lengths available in sizes small to large. And much like the top above, this skirt can be worn all year, with black strappy sandals for now, sleek leather ankle boots come fall and slouchy knee-highs in winter.

6. Eileen Fisher Washable Stretch Crepe Arch Pant

One of the absolute best-selling styles at Eileen Fisher is the Washable Stretch Crepe Pant (from $84), which has a slim fit in the leg, no pockets and a wide flat waistband. This Arch silhouette is a new twist on the beloved favorite, this time with more of a barrel-leg shape. It also has deep pockets on the side, but keep that comfortable wide waistband folks love so much. I would suggest sticking with your usual size with these pants, despite the fabric have ample stretch, just to ensure you get that beautiful arched draping in the leg.

7. Eileen Fisher Organic Linen Vest

Vest tops have been trending for some time now, and Eileen Fisher actually has a number of different styles currently in store. This linen cutie is slightly more cropped to hit right at the hip, and has a tie in back so you can cinch it at the waist to your heart’s desire. The V neck hits at a great spot, providing better air flow than crew-neck options but not being so low as to feel in appropriate for the office. Being linen, it will wrinkle somewhat throughout the day, but it’s also fully lined which should help mitigate some of that creasing.

8. Eileen Fisher Puckered Organic Linen Tapered Pant

No need to worry about wrinkling with these comfy linen pants, as the fabric is already puckered to give them a fabulously fun texture. These are truly the ultimate summer pant—lightweight, comfortable, breathable, flattering and in a print that feels seasonally appropriate and yet can pair well with any color and plenty of other prints as well. Truly, I had a very hard time leaving these behind. The pockets are nice and deep, and despite the material feeling quite light, these pants did not appear sheer in the least.

9. Eileen Fisher Organic Cotton Lofty Gauze Notch Collar Top

The Notch Collar Top is another EF best seller, and is available in a range of different fabrics, including linen and silk. But this organic cotton has to be one of the softest things I’ve ever put on my body. It is as light as air, yet drapes beautifully with those dropped shoulders and pleated front. If there was a blanket made of this same material, I don’t think I’d ever get out of bed. And just like the button-up shirt from earlier, the hem on this short-sleeve design is longer in back than it is the front. If I could have, I would have left the store not just with this cerulean blue, but also the black, white and navy versions.

10. Eileen Fisher Garment-Dyed Organic Cotton Denim Wide-Leg Jean

White denim can be tricky to perfect—you don’t want it to be too tight or too thin (I don’t want to deal with only being able to wear specific underwear with my jeans), nor can it be too thick or heavy for those peak summer days. This cropped wide-leg denim hits that Goldilocks point right in the middle, offering breathability without limiting my undergarment options to solely nude seamless thongs. I will say, there is quite a lot of stretch in the material. I typically wear a size 30 for jeans and tried on a size large here and they were huge on me. So if you’re between sizes, you may want to opt for the smaller knowing these have spandex built in to better hug your curves.

11. Eileen Fisher Cotton Blend Stripe Stitch Shirt Jacket

I’m a real sucker for a multi-wear clothing item, which is one of the main reasons I gravitated toward this striped shirt jacket in the store. It can be worn as either a lightweight jacket or as a top, and has that same elegant band collar as the button-up shirt from before. The thin black and gray stripes are also a great option for those who are wary about incorporating anything too bold into their wardrobe. And the fact that the pockets twist the stripes to be horizontal is just a fantastic finishing touch.

12. Eileen Fisher Cotton Stretch Denim Wide-Leg Jean

These jeans are the same silhouette as the white pair above, just with a slightly different fabrication and in a deep indigo wash that will be super trendy come fall. This time I opted for my usual EF size (medium), and found the fit to be very comfortable around the hips and waist. The length is great for wearing with ankle boots or loafers, and there are petite sizes though I once again found myself wishing there was also a tall option to give me just a few extra inches.
