When you think of royally-approved prints, polka dots is it. Everyone from Princess Diana to Kate Middleton have regularly rocked the timeless pattern and now Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, is trying it out. This week, Prince Edward’s wife stepped out at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea wearing a gorgeous blue-hued polka dot dress from Beulah London ($833), a U.K.-based brand long adored by the royals. Her timing is impeccable, too, given the print is trending for spring and summer. Even better? This particular style is still in stock.

What makes Sophie’s choice such a stunner of a dress? Beyond the polka dot pattern, the bright blue color is a total stand-out and reminds us immediately of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s now-iconic adage: “You have to be seen to be believed.” Sophie—with her hair pulled back and her summer-ready espadrilles (similar here, $50)—looks radiant, but it’s the eye-catching color in combination with the on-trend print that really makes this entire look pop. (She also proves the pattern’s versatility by wearing it to meet with Chelsea pensioners, but also to take part in a competitive round of Bingo.)

There is something about polka dots though. From my own recent research testing the print, the busy pattern is both classic and pretty. In the case of the Beulah London style worn by Sophie, the delicate size of the dot makes it feel extra chic. A quick royal reminder: Sophie has reached for polka dots before to great success. (Remember this ME+EM style she wore to Wimbledon in 2021?)

As I mentioned above, polka dots have long been a style staple for several other members of the royal fam. Kate in particular has rocked the print numerous times to occasions ranging from Royal Ascot to Wimbledon, but Princess Diana was also known to regularly wear it. (#TBT to one of her first royal engagements in Gloucestershire just ahead of her 1981 wedding to then-Prince Charles—the red!) Even Princess Beatrice has reached for the print.

So, how can you, too, pull off polka dots? We pulled a handful of similar styles—the Beulah London dress included—so you can replicate Sophie’s style.
