For years, Birkenstock sandals have inundated our Instagram feeds with their signature cork soles and leather straps, and today is no different. Nordstrom just dropped two new Birkenstock sandal styles: the Gizeh braided sandals and the Franca braided slide sandals, and let's just say we're expecting these warm-weather slip-ons to blow up this spring and summer.
This may actually happen sooner than later since they're going viral on TikTok with more than 200,000 views and counting as we speak.
So if they look good to you, you may want to add them to your cart like, now, because there's a chance they'll sell out once everyone finds out how impressive they really are. Especially the Gizeh braided pair—here's why they're quickly becoming favorites.
If you're familiar with Birkenstock's classic Gizeh Big Buckle sandals (think of them as the OG style), then you already know the main difference between the two. While the leather Big Buckle style has a smooth and flat leather T-strap, the new pair has been updated with a boho braided leather oiled T-strap to take it up a notch, giving it a vintage flair.
Other than that, the new sandals have the same comfy cork and latex footbed that "mimics the shape of a healthy foot," according to the brand, as well as an adjustable strap with a sleek buckle closure and a cushioned insole with arch support.
Here's why one reviewer is obsessed: "I saw these and decided to upgrade to them instead of a new pair of plain ones because I love the braid detail. They did feel firm, which is normal until you break them in, but I did not have any issues with the braided part being rough. The quality is the same. (Higher price due to genuine leather.) The part between the toes is the same. I'm very happy with my purchase."
Similarly, this new leather style is a revamped version of the brand's original Franca sandals. And like the previous pair, the difference is the braided leather oiled strap details that give them an edge compared to the old smooth strap. Not to mention, they have the same polished hardware and contoured footbed that make them equally comfy and versatile.
So you'll have to decide which you like more. But our two cents? You should probably scoop up both before they inevitably sell out, and you'll have to go back to wearing your old pairs. Don't say we didn't warn you.
