Goodbye, hefty outwear and winter boots—as spring eases in, we’re transitioning to flowy dresses, maxi skirts and breezy shorts until further notice. As a fashion writer, it’s quite literally my job to stay alert for emerging trends each season. And while butter yellow and red took us far last spring, there’s one particular color combination on my mind this year: brown and baby blue. I’ve been spotting the unexpected pairing on runways and in street style capitals alike. When I’m in need of inspiration, I tend to look at the Copenhagen ladies’ standout style. And seriously, all the cool girls are sporting the combo.

Another goal of mine? Bringing a bit more whimsy into my wardrobe. As a New Yorker, that’s easier said than done when you’re staring at an all-black closet. But this duo might just be the answer. It’s an effortless way to experiment—whether through tops, swimwear or accessories. I've done the heavy lifting for you and gathered some of my favorite pieces to get you started. Minimalist- and maximalist-friendly, there’s something here for everyone.

Move Over Butter Yellow, *This* is the It Color of 2026

A rugby shirt is one of my go-to hacks for incorporating color into any outfit. It leans into that sporty-meets-preppy energy while staying effortlessly versatile. It pairs seamlessly with just about anything—jorts, skirts, shorts, you name it.

I know summer vacations are on your calendar. Adopt the combo into your swimwear with this flattering, ruched one-piece From Boden. With polka dots being a major craze too, you could call this a trend double-whammy.

Your next beach vacation dinner look is calling. This halter top is just $35 and features a long tie that drapes and flutters down the back, while naturally leaning into the playful color combination. Go the extra mile and get the matching maxi skirt, too.

This polka-dot matching set is equal parts fun and alluring thanks to its open back and shorter hemline. Take on a night out when you pair your favorite kitten heels with it. Bonus: It’s under $100!

Swap out your basic white tee for this two-toned one from Zara. Simple construction and a body-hugging fit makes it such an easy, everyday style. I’m imagining pairing with your favorite pair of denim, ballet flats and sunglasses for an off-duty look.

There will still be the occasional chill here and there during spring, so reach for this striped sweater from Gap. Made from 100 percent cotton with a subtle color palette, it’s perfect for throwing on or draping over your shoulders.

Whether you’re festival- or beach-bound, silk scarves are a must-have. They’re the quickest way to zhuzh up any outfit—tied around your neck, your handbag or even styled in your hair. This striped blue-and-brown option is super affordable and could easily become your new (very versatile) best friend.

One of my go-to summer uniforms? An all-white outfit with a pattern pop. In this case, opt for this paisley, top-handle bag from Sau Lee. It’s a great size for a stroll or a night out on the town—just enough to hold the essentials without unnecessary bulk—and channels total ‘70s energy.

If colorful jewelry is your thing, look no further. These tortoise-patterned hoops adorned with turquoise stones are breathtaking. Wear them even with the simplest summer outfit—a white tank, jean shorts and flip-flops make for an effortlessly cool look. Or dress them up with a flowy dress for a more elevated feel.

Lounge queens, this one’s for you! Aerie’s OFFLINE line is home to some of my comfiest pieces. Wear this color combo whether you’re working from home, out to brunch, or getting cozy at the movies.

A pair of practical sneakers should be in your footwear rotation. Whether you’re attending a concert, running errands or trying to log some serious miles, you don’t have to compromise on style with this delicate color way.
