Maybe it’s the evolution of Charli XCX’s “brat summer,” which was denoted with a color palette that mixed chartreuse and green. Maybe it’s the arrival of more saturated hues (like cherry red and poppy pastels) amongst the typical neutrals on the fall 2024 runways. Either way, celebs like Kerry Washington, Michelle Dockery and Naomie Harris are flocking to apple green for fall. Paired with a camel trench or a neutral pump, I’m here for it—and I’m ready to infuse a similar boldness into my own closet stat.

Here’s why: Green has always represented renewal (hello, fall and its “fresh start” energy), but the way we’re seeing it appear at fashion shows ranging from London to New York also harkens back to the past. Whether it’s Dockery’s suiting separates or Washington’s mod-like dress, in such a distinctive hue: These pieces feel retro, but also re-imagined. And the apple shade feels like a toned-down version of the more electric green that epitomized summer. Showstopping while still being subtle, if you will.

Now, the fun part: figuring out to include such a lush color in your own fall wardrobe. It doesn’t have to be hard—sure, you could do head-to-toe green, but I love seeing how Dockery dialed it back with a neutral (and classic-hued) trench coat. I also love the idea of going full monochromatic like Harris. But you could also opt for a statement piece like a bag or a dress, mixed with more muted fall tones.

Another option: While apple green is definitely it for celebs, the runway—whether you’re looking at shows like Miu Miu or Ferragamo—is proof that green in any iteration works. Maybe that’s an olive or khaki-colored hue or it could be more of a mint, which is also pretty and unique.

Bottom line: It’s a color you can have fun with—and anything that extends the brat part of summer? Here, here.
