What’s a monster success? I’m talking the little keychain/purse charm known as Labubu, a Hong Kong-originated vinyl plushie that’s made its parent company $677 million in revenue in the first half of 2025 alone. It has captured the public’s imagination—I had one hanging from my purse during a recent cross-country road trip, and adults and tweens from Cali to Texas to Georgia admiringly chatted me up about it.

What’s more? Lisa from Blackpink recently dressed as a Labubu (and carried one) at her London concert, a sure sign that the dolls have transcended the collectable category and entered the fashion space in full force. So, I know what you’re thinking…costumes…October trend…ugly/cute characters…. Yup, parents on Reddit are already asking for DIY Labubu Halloween costume ideas and TikTok has dozens of videos (and that number is growing steadily) on How to Be a Labubu for Halloween.

How can you actually fashion a costume for your kids or yourself? I hit up Adriana Lipsztein at Airtasker, an online marketplace for task services, for Labubu Halloween costume tips. “To DIY a Labubu costume, you’ll want to find ways to replicate its key features, like its fuzzy texture, oversized ears and toothy grin,” says Lipsztein. Honestly, it’s a pretty easy and fun craft project turning yourself into a Labubu—here’s how.

How to Craft a Life-Size Labubu

The Body

“For the base of the costume, using a bodysuit in the color of your chosen Labubu gives you a canvas to build on. You can find these on Amazon by searching “morphsuit” or “full body spandex suit,” Lipsztein says. “Over this, layer faux fur fabric to recreate Labubu’s fluffy look. Searching “long pile faux fur” on Amazon will give you options in different colors and price ranges. Cut the fabric into panels and stitch or glue it onto the suit. Make sure to start from the legs and move upward so seams stay hidden beneath the fur’s natural flow.” Or, you can just take the shortcut of Tiktokker helloIamkate and order a lamb suit costume and lop off the tail and ears.

The Head/Ears

“The headpiece and ears are the most defining features of a Labubu. You can craft tall ears from craft foam or wire wrapped in fabric, then cover them with matching fur. If you’d prefer a quick start, you can modify a bunny ear headband (also easy to find on Amazon) and extend them to Labubu proportions,” Lipsztein says. She recommends two options for the face—a) purchase a plain mask from Amazon and add serrated teeth (which can be made using the same craft foam used for the ears) and eyes made from mesh so you can see out or b) purchase a face-painting kit from Amazon and paint the features directly on your face.

Hands/Feet

A pair of gloves and boot covers wrapped in fur will make sure the costume looks cohesive. “If that all sounds like a lot of work, don’t forget you can easily post this DIY task on Airtasker and have a local Tasker create the costume for you,” suggests Lipsztein.

The Takeaway

What’s better than dressing up like a Labubu this Halloween? How about dressing up your whole gang as a group of Labubus? I can’t ever erase the sheer delight of seeing a phalanx of heavyset guys in rainbow candy-colored fur and fanciful face paint as Care Bears one summer in Provincetown, so I fully endorse the practice of group furries. I agree with @raeandthewriter who says in a post, “If you all dressed up as a group as a bunch of Labubus, it will really pack a punch.” The branding expert goes on to predict, “after Halloween, the Labubu is going to ride off into the sunset, so this is the last chance you have to really make an impact” with this character. Crafting party, anyone?
