This Australian Rom-Com Is the New #8 Movie on Netflix & We Can See Why

This cheesy new Netflix rom-com has all our favorite things: an attractive couple, a tropical location and a semi-predictable story line we don’t have to think too hard about.

Yes, we’re talking about This Little Love of Mine, an Australian flick that recently claimed the number eight spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched movies. (It’s currently ranked behind Fear Street Part Two: 1978, Major Grom: Plague Doctor, Fear Street Part One: 1994, Kung Fu Panda, Mother’s Day, Kung Fu Panda 2 and How I Became a Superhero.)

So, what is This Little Love of Mine about? Meet Laura (Saskia Hampele), a successful San Francisco lawyer who’s on the verge of a promotion. The problem is her new job is contingent on a major deal that involves Laura returning to her island hometown of Sapphire Cove and convincing her childhood best friend to take over the family business. Easier said than done, amirite?

We won’t give too much away, but let’s just say that Laura sticks around in an attempt to reach a compromise. During this time, Laura realizes that she can only set aside her childhood feelings for so long.

In addition to Hampele, the movie also stars Liam McIntyre (Chip), Lynn Gilmartin (Gem), Craig Horner (Owen), Monette Lee (Fiona), Tiriel Mora (Mr. Bailey), Sarah Woods (Mrs. Bailey), Rajan Velu (Theodore), Jessi Robertson (young Laura) and Lennox Broadley (young Chip).

This Little Love of Mine was directed by Christine Luby (Peter Rabbit), while Georgia Harrison (Dive Club) wrote the screenplay. According to Decider, the movie wasn’t filmed in the U.S.A., where it takes place. Instead, it was shot in Queensland, Australia.

BRB, escaping to Sapphire Cove.
