Serena Williams Just Joined One of My Favorite Broadway Shows—In a Totally Unexpected Role

When you think of Serena Williams, what comes to mind? For most people, it’s tennis and rightfully so. She’s one of the greatest to ever do it. But ever since she officially retired after her final match at the 2022 US Open, Serena’s been busy expanding her empire. From launching her beauty line, Wyn Beauty, to podcasting with sister (and fellow legend) Venus Williams, she’s been exploring new passions outside the court. And now? She’s adding Broadway producer to her résumé.

On September 8, it was announced that Serena, 43, is joining the producing team for the North American tour of Hell’s Kitchen, which just so happens to be one of my favorite shows on Broadway right now.

“I was blown away when I saw Hell's Kitchen on Broadway last summer,” Serena said, per Broadway World. “I am proud to join the producing team of my first ever Broadway show and support Alicia and the amazing company of Hell's Kitchen as they get ready to light up the country on tour."

If you’re not familiar, Hell's Kitchen is the critically acclaimed musical from 17-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys. The story follows 17-year-old Ali, a bold and passionate teen searching for freedom and purpose in New York City. Along the way, she meets a life-changing musical mentor, navigates a complicated family dynamic and finds strength in the neighborhood that raises her.

The show is currently in its second year at the Shubert Theatre in NYC and won two 2024 Tony Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Now, it’s heading out on the road and Serena’s helping bring it to the masses.

The Hell’s Kitchen North American tour kicks off with a three-week run at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio, from October 10 to November 1, 2025 and the show will hit more than 30 cities in its first year.
