Selena Gomez Is Reviving the Classic Rom-Com ‘Working Girl’—Here’s What We Know

With so many revivals and reboots, it’s not surprising that the ‘80s rom-com Working Girl is getting the same treatment.

Per Deadline, Selena Gomez is joining forces with 20th Century and serving as an executive producer on an all-new revival of the classic film. Though the cast and release date have not been announced, Ilana Pena—who created the Disney+ series Diary of a Future President—is set to write the screenplay for the upcoming project.

Working Girl centers around an ambitious secretary from Staten Island (originally played by Melanie Griffith) who steps in for her boss while she’s recovering from a broken leg. But, when she pitches an idea to the company, her boss attempts to take all the credit. The ensemble cast also included Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver and Joan Cusack.

Not only was the film met with critical acclaim, but it also became a major box office success—grossing over $103 million worldwide. Working Girl was nominated for six Oscars in 1989, including Best Picture. In addition, it also won a total of four Golden Globes that same year (out of six nominations).

This is just one of many projects that Gomez is producing. The Rare Beauty founder currently stars and executive produces the Hulu comedy series, Only Murders in the Building. Plus, she stars in and produces the HBO cooking show, Selena + Chef.

We’re sooo excited.
