Everyone loves a classic hero—Superman, Batman, the Avengers—you get the idea. They save the world, embody courage and are universally admired. But what about an anti-hero? No, not the Taylor Swift song but the person who doesn’t fit the traditional mold but still captures audiences' hearts? If Netflix charts are anything to go by, the answer is a resounding yes, because Venom: The Last Dance has shot straight to the top.

The latest Venom installment, starring Tom Hardy as the fan-favorite symbiote, hit Netflix and wasted no time climbing to the number-one spot on the platform’s top ten list—just one day after its debut on the streamer.

Serving as the grand finale to the franchise, Venom: The Last Dance sees Hardy reprising his role as Eddie Brock, the reluctant host of the lethal alien symbiote, Venom. This time, they’re facing their biggest threat yet: Knull, the god of symbiotes. On the run and hunted by a secret lab determined to separate them, Eddie and Venom must navigate their most intense battle to date, making their way from Mexico to New York City while evading their enemies.

The trilogy, which kicked off in 2018 with Venom (currently streaming on Disney+), was followed by Venom: Let There Be Carnage in 2021 (available on Starz) and now concludes with Venom: The Last Dance on Netflix.

While the Venom films never quite won over critics, audiences have been all in. The trilogy has raked in nearly $1.8 billion worldwide despite low critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes (30 precent for the first, 58 percent for the second and 40 percent for the third). Fans, however, consistently rated the films between 80 percent and 84 percent, proving that sometimes, audience love outweighs critic reviews.

With Venom: The Last Dance marking Tom Hardy’s final appearance in the role, one thing is clear—he’s going out with a bang.
