A new day, another title climbing its way into Netflix’s Top 10. Right now, the list is packed with buzzy picks, from the Morgan Freeman–narrated The Dinosaurs to Shonda Rhimes’ beloved drama Bridgerton and the Oscar-nominated, record-breaking K-Pop Demon Hunters. But quietly landing in the number seven spot is a much darker series, one that might make you look at your own friendships a little differently. The show? A Friend, A Murderer.

The three-part true-crime docuseries explores three chilling cases that gripped Denmark over the past decade. The incidents, which occurred between 2016 and 2023, involved attacks against teenage girls. After the third case, investigators were finally able to identify the perpetrator: a 32-year-old man named Philip Patrick Westh.

The series takes a closer look at the crimes and the ripple effects they had on the rural community where they occurred. Much of the story is told through interviews with Amanda, Kiri and Nichlas, who were once friends with Westh, along with others connected to the investigation.

“For years, I feared the perpetrator was still out there and that I could be the next victim,” one of the culprit’s ex-friends, Amanda, says. “When I realized it was one of my closest friends, my world shattered.”

Thankfully, this isn’t one of those true-crime stories that ends with lingering questions about what happened next. Though it definitely still leaves you wanting to reevaluate those who you may call a friend.

A Friend, A Murderer is now streaming on Netflix.
