When it comes to movies and shows featuring some of my favorite actors, deciding whether to press play is usually pretty easy. It’s almost always a yes. That said, historical documentaries aren’t typically at the top of my watch list. But add Morgan Freeman’s instantly recognizable, calming narration into the mix? Suddenly that “maybe” becomes an automatic yes. And it seems I’m not the only one who feels that way. The Dinosaurs, narrated by Freeman, is currently sitting at number two on Netflix’s Top 10 list.

The series is an American nature documentary miniseries executive-produced by Steven Spielberg. Across four episodes, The Dinosaurs explores the fascinating history of dinosaurs, from their first appearance during the Triassic period all the way to their extinction in the Cretaceous–Paleogene event.

The project is considered a spiritual successor to the 2023 series Life on Our Planet, continuing the sweeping storytelling about Earth’s distant past.

The show debuted on Netflix on March 6, 2026, and it’s already making a big impression with critics. In fact, it currently holds a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Freeman's narration aside, reviewers have been particularly impressed by the show’s immersive visuals.

"The visuals and sound design are outstanding, one of the best nature documentaries in years. Viscerally, vividly real," one critic wrote. Another reviewer highlighted the show’s appeal for viewers who are simply fascinated by dinosaurs. "For the dino-curious, Netflix’s new series is the multimillion-year story of the rise and fall of these Earth giants," they shared.

And according to a third critic, the scale of the series lives up to its subject matter. "The Dinosaurs brings a lost world back to life, and the documentary series is every bit as epic as a story about dinosaurs needs to be."

If you’re in the mood for something visually stunning (and maybe a little educational), The Dinosaurs is streaming now on Netflix.
