One of Morgan Freeman’s Most Jaw-Dropping Thrillers Is Back on Streaming (and That Ending Still Hits)

It's a must-watch (or rewatch)

There’s just something about seeing Morgan Freeman in a movie that makes me instantly want to watch it. I don’t even need to know the plot—if he’s in it, I trust it’s going to be good. He’s proven that time and time again, and honestly, his movies have a way of aging really well. Think 2008’s Wanted with Angelina Jolie (still iconic) or 2013’s Now You See Me (and yes, there’s a third one coming this November, FYI).

So when I saw that one of his older films, Seven, had just landed on Peacock, I immediately added it to my watch list—even though (confession) I haven’t seen it yet. So, what's all the hype?

Seven originally came out in 1995 and became a surprise hit, grossing over $327 million worldwide and ranking as the seventh highest-grossing film of that year. It’s directed by David Fincher (aka the mastermind behind Gone Girl, Fight Club and The Social Network) and stars Freeman alongside a young Brad Pitt. The plot follows two detectives—Freeman’s almost-retired Somerset and Pitt’s hotheaded newcomer Mills—as they hunt down a serial killer whose murders are based on the seven deadly sins. Oh, and Gwyneth Paltrow's in the mix too.

What really sold me, though? The ending. Seven is known for having one of the most shocking and unforgettable final twists in cinematic history. Even people who’ve never seen the movie have probably heard that line: “What’s in the box?!”

Even today, the film holds an impressive 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95% audience score. Fans still rave about it, calling it “one of the best serial killer films ever made” and “a thriller that will stay in your mind.”

And the best part? It’s streaming on Peacock right now.

So, if you (like me) somehow missed this one or you’re just ready for a rewatch, this is your sign to hit play.
