As if I needed another reminder that my devices are always listening, this one hit a little too perfectly. I had just wrapped up rewatching Prison Break for the—I don’t even know—fifth? Sixth? Let’s just say a lot of times. If you’ve never seen it, the title says it all: it’s men breaking out of prison and, yes, it’s as intense and addictive as it sounds.

So imagine my surprise when, right as I’m mourning the end of Michael Scofield and his crew’s wild ride, Hulu casually serves me History's Greatest Escapes with Morgan Freeman. I didn’t even know this existed—but apparently, it’s exactly what I needed.

The true-crime docuseries hosted by none other than Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman, dives into real-life prison escapes that have made headlines and left law enforcement scrambling. Freeman doesn’t just narrate—he’s placed right into the action with recreated scenes, giving you a front-row seat to the chaos, planning and desperation behind each escape.

It’s not just slick reenactments, though. The show includes interviews with the escapees (when possible), their families, former cellmates, guards and prison staff. It’s a full 360-view of what it takes to pull off a real prison break—and what happens afterward.

Season one covers infamous escapes from places like Alcatraz, Devil’s Island, and Dannemora and even El Chapo’s escape from a Mexican prison. Season two takes it global with escapes during the Vietnam War, from Devil’s Island again and the Sobibor Death Camp during World War II.

“No matter where history’s greatest escapes began, they end with one hell of a story,” Freeman says in the season two trailer—and honestly, he’s not wrong.

The best part? Both seasons of History's Greatest Escapes with Morgan Freeman are streaming on Hulu right now. So if you're into true crime and prison break thrillers, you're all set.
