The evening has barely begun, yet we already have our pick for the 95th annual Academy Awards’ best-dressed actor. He’s a nominee, he’s a heartbreaker and he’s one inch tall: Marcel the Shell.
According to a tweet from @filmupdates, Marcel is wearing Thom Browne to tonight’s event.
This will be Marcel’s first time at the Oscars, but if the newcomer’s name sounds familiar, that’s because Marcel was an early YouTube star before the age of the influencer. He’s also the titular character of Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and voiced by comedian Jenny Slate. (Will she wear Thom Browne too?)
Not for nothing, Slate—a former Saturday Night Live cast member—also appeared in Everything Everywhere All at Once, which is considered a frontrunner at tonight’s awards show and is nominated in 11 categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh), Best Supporting Actress (Stephanie Hsu and Jamie Lee Curtis) and Best Supporting Actor (Ke Huy Quan).
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is nominated for Best Animated Feature, alongside Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, The Sea Beast and Turning Red. We don’t like to play favorites, but let’s just say Marcel was one of our favorite films of the past year.
