Dark psychological thrillers have been all the rage lately. From The Girlfriend to A Widow's Game to The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, these shows and films have dominated streaming platforms like Prime Video, Netflix and Hulu—and the genre shows no signs of slowing down. The latest series to break into the Top 10? Lazarus.

Developed for Prime Video by Harlan Coben (the mastermind behind Fool Me Once and Missing You) and Danny Brocklehurst, Lazarus is a six-episode horror-thriller following forensic psychologist Joel "Laz" Lazarus (Sam Claflin). Laz returns home after his father’s apparent suicide and quickly becomes entangled in a web of cold-case murders, family secrets and supernatural visions.

As Laz investigates his father’s death, he also uncovers secrets connected to his sister’s murder 25 years prior. An original idea by Coben, the series blends mystery, suspense and supernatural elements as Laz grapples with grief and the unsettling feeling that his father’s death may not have been what it seemed.

Lazarus premiered on Prime Video on October 22 and less than a week later, it climbed to the number two spot, just behind The Boys spin-off series Gen V. The cast also includes Bill Nighy, Alexandra Roach, David Fynn, Karla Crome, Kate Ashfield and more. Critics love it too, with a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

"This show had more twists and turns than a roller coaster," one viewer wrote in a Google review. "Just when I thought I had figured it out, there was a sharp twist that made me say, ‘Well damn, I didn’t see that coming.’"

"I loved this show. Kept you engaged and guessing all the way through," another fan shared. And a third added, "Finally a show I couldn’t guess my way through."

Lazarus is streaming now on Prime Video.
