Lady Gaga Will Star Alongside Joaquin Phoenix in ‘Joker’ Sequel

Lady Gaga has taken on many roles in her career. From playing a vampire on the FX anthology series American Horror Story to an aspiring singer on A Star Is Born, the Grammy-award winner continues to prove that she is a talented actress in her own right. And now, the musician is set to take on another big acting role.

The “Rain on Me” singer will star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Folie à deux, which is the follow-up film to the 2019 smash hit Joker. Gaga shared the news by posting a black-and-red video on her Instagram page earlier today. The clip shows black silhouettes of her character joining forces with Phoenix’s Joker before the title of the sequel and the release date (October 4, 2024) flashes across the screen.

Though Gaga’s role in the film remains unclear, it’s speculated that she’ll portray the character Harley Quinn. In the DC comics, she is the Joker’s former psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum. Harley falls in love with him and becomes his accomplice. Margot Robbie has played the role of Harley in films like Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey.

Joker follows Batman’s arch nemesis, Arthur Fleck, and his transition from failed stand-up comedian to a psychotic villain. The movie was met with positive reviews from critics and became a box-office success following its release—earning $1 billion and becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2019.

We can see it now: Lady Gaga is going to kill this role.
