A film just isn’t complete without the music that backs it up.

Tonight, the 77th annual Golden Globes took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. During the ceremony, Joker won the award for Best Original Score (Motion Picture). Hildur Guðnadóttir (shown above) accepted the award.

The score beat out Little Women, Marriage Story, Motherless Brooklyn and 1917.

Marriage Story earned the most nominations from this bunch with a total of six (!). Joker earned a total of four nominations this year, 1917 locked in three and Little Women received two. This was the only nod of Motherless Brooklyn.

In 2018, Justin Hurwitz took home the award for Best Original Score for First Man. Other nominees included Marco Beltrami for A Quiet Place, Alexandre Desplat for Isle of Dogs, Ludwig Göransson for Black Panther and Marc Shaiman for Mary Poppins Returns.

The first Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score went to Max Steiner for his compositional work on Life with Father (1947). John Williams is the artist with the most nominations in this category, with a total of 24 (four of which he won).

We (and the HFPA) always love a good soundtrack.
