Congrats are in order for Fernanda Torres, who, thanks to her stellar performance in I'm Still Here, made history as the first Brazilian actress to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. Her portrayal of Eunice Paiva also landed her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, which makes her the second Brazilian actress in history (after her mother, Fernanda Montenegro) to be nominated in this category.

But even before Torres earned her first Oscar nod, critics raved about her performance in the biopic, which depicts the life of Eunice Paiva—a mother and activist whose husband gets arrested during the military dictatorship in Brazil. On-screen, she's captivating as the fearless human rights advocate, but behind the scenes, she's a multi-hyphenate who's happily married to her husband, Andrucha Waddington. Naturally, I did some digging and learned quite a bit about her marriage and family life. Keep reading for details on Fernanda Torres's husband.

2. How Did Fernanda Torres Meet Her Husband?

Although Torres and Waddington rarely mention their relationship during interviews and red-carpet events, I do know the happy couple tied the knot in 1997. Given their backgrounds, it's likely they first crossed paths in the film industry.

3. When Did Fernanda Torres and Her Husband Have Kids?

Torres and her husband share two children. They welcomed their first son, Joaquim, in 2000, and in 2008, when Torres was 42, they welcomed their second son, Antônio. Like his mother and grandmother, Joaquim is an actor. He's best known for his work in O Juízo, Amor e Sorte and Under Pressure. Antônio, on the other hand, tends to keep a lower profile, but you can spot pictures of him on his mom's social media feed.

Additionally, Waddington has two children (João, born in 1993, and Pedro, born in 1995), from his first marriage.

4. Have Fernanda Torres and Her Husband Ever Worked Together?

Yep, Torres and Waddington have collaborated on multiple projects, including the 1999 film Twins, the 2005 comedy-drama The House of Sand and the 10-episode drama series, The End. Waddington directed the latter for GloboPlay, and the screenplay was written by Torres.

Regarding his film, The House of Sand, Waddington told The New York Times, “For me the filmmaking process is something intuitive, not rational, so inspiration can come from anywhere. In this case, I got to create an entire universe from scratch. It’s like these two women are living on the moon and don’t even know it.”

Torres also told the outlet, “The making of the film mirrored the story in the film, so you could never dissociate one thing from another. Andrucha was Vasco, leading his wife and mother-in-law into the desert. I felt a lot like my character, claustrophobic, and my mother did too. Since we were shooting in chronological order, I think you see that reflected in the performances.”

5. What Is Fernanda Torres's Relationship History?

Torres was previously married to Brazilian producer, director and journalist Pedro Bial from 1982 to 1985. She was also married to director and playwright Gerald Thomas from 1991 to 1996.

Following her Golden Globes win, Thomas celebrated his ex-wife and said, "Congratulations on your victory, Nanda. I know how important this is to you, even though it's always in the name of Brazilian cinema. I know who you are! I laughed at one of your statements. I stopped, looked out the window... I thought about your mother and laughed. CONGRATULATIONS."
