While it seems like we just finished awards season, the Emmys have returned to kick us out of the summer slump. This morning, the nominees of the 78th awards were announced, with predictable contenders like Hacks, The Bear, Pluribus and Beef, plus newcomers like Margo's Got Money Troubles and Widow's Bay. Notably, there are a handful of names and shows that were left off the table. From Jeremy Allen White to Stranger Things, here are the nine worst Emmys snubs of the year.
9 Wild 2026 Emmy Nomination Snubs, from Jeremy Allen White to 'Stranger Things'
Maybe next year

1. Stranger Things Season 5
The Duffer Brothers' extraordinary run with Stranger Things came to an end with the release of the Netflix show's fifth and final season. It was a hit with both critics and fans (it's got a 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes), though there was some criticism directed towards certain plot points. The show failed to garner an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama series, which it received five times between 2017 and 2023.
2. Half Man
This British drama premiered on HBO in April telling the 30-year saga between two men who grew up as brothers but drifted apart—until a an act of violence forces them to confront their shared past. It failed to get a nom in the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category, though Richard Gadd did get the supporting actor nod. Half Man was considered creator Gadd's follow up to his highly acclaimed Baby Reindeer, which earned him outstanding limited series, lead actor and writing Emmys in 2024.
3. Jon Hamm
In AppleTV's Your Friends and Nieghbors, Jon Hamm trades the world of Don Draper and the glory days Madison Avenue advertising for the life of a former hedge fund manager robbing his wealthy neighbors after ending up divorced and unemployed. The show is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, though Hamm was left off the ballot for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
4. Bait
Lead actor Riz Ahmed earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, though his show didn't make the cut. Ahmed plays a struggling British Pakistani actor who auditions for the role of James Bond. The series follows his life over four days, examining the immigrant experience, fame and publicity.
5. Jeremy Allen White
Once again, The Bear scores an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, with Ayo Edebiri nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. However, her co-star, Jeremy Allen White, didn't make the list. He was edged out by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Wonder Man), Steve Carrell (Rooster), Matthew Rhys (Widow’s Bay), Jason Segel (Shrinking) and Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building).
6. Kathy Bates
When Kathy Bates was nominated for an Emmy last year, she became, at age 77, the oldest performer nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series. Sadly, she was left off this year's roster, as was Matlock, which follows Madeline Matlock, a lawyer rejoining the workforce with unconventional tactics.
7. Keke Palmer
In Februrary, Peacock debuted The 'Burbs, a remake of the 1989 film that follows a young couple investigating suspicious activity in a formerly vacant Victorian in their neighborhood. Palmer stars Samira Fisher, half of the couple who have recently become new parents. The show, renewed for a season two, garnered just one nomination for Best Main Title Theme Music.
8. Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington leads AppleTV's psychological thriller Imperfect Women alongside Elizabeth Moss and Kate Mara as three best friends. When one of them is murdered, it reveals a web of lies and secrets. Washington had been submitted for lead actress, with Moss and Mara in supporting, though none ended up with a nomination for the limited series.
9. Bowen Yang
Though the comedian left SNL in the middle of season 51, he was still eligible for Emmy consideration in the Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series category. He has been nominated four times previously, though has not won.
