Cole Hauser has graced our screens since 2018 as Rip Wheeler, the foreman at Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and husband of Beth Dutton, scion of the ranch's eponymous owners. While Yellowstone wrapped its fifth and final season in 2024, the series was so popular it led to multiple spinoffs, including 1883, 1923, 6666, Marshals and Dutton Ranch. Hauser stars in Dutton Ranch alongside Kelly Reilly as the duo reprise their roles, attempting to start a new life in South Texas. But if you, like me, think you've seen—or heard of—Hauser before, you're not wrong. Below, some of his notable projects and storied family history.
'Dutton Ranch' Star Cole Hauser Looks So Familiar, and I Finally Figured Out Why
Hollywood royalty right here

Hauser is, unlike his Yellowstone character, Hollywood royalty. His parents are film producer Cass Warner and actor Wings Hauser. And, yes, Cass Warner is a descendent of the family that founded the Warner Bros. production company; Harry Warner is therefore Hauser's great-grandfather.
His film debut was 1992's School Ties, directed by Robert Mandel. Hauser starred alongside an ensemble cast that now reads as a who's who of Hollywood, joined by the likes of Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. He reunited with Damon and Affleck in 1997's Good Will Hunting, as Will's friend Billy McBride. However, his real "break" is considered to be 2000's Tigerland, for which Hauser was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male Actor. The film, directed by Joel Schumacher, is a war drama that follows a group of soldiers in a training camp as they prepare to ship out to Vietnam.

Hauser has shared the screen with many other notables during his career. He starred alongside Bruce Willis and Colin Farrell as a POW in Hart's War (2002) and again teamed up with Willis in 2003 playing a Navy SEAL in Tears of the Sun. Hauser had lead roles in back-to-back Mel Gibson movies in 2004 and 2005, Paparazzi and The Cave.
In addition to film, the 51-year-old has also dabbled in television, with roles in the FOX crime drama series K-Ville and the CBS television pilot The Tower. His most recent films are 2013's A Good Day to Die Hard and Olympus Has Fallen, and 2014's Johnny Depp-led Transcendence, a science fiction thriller about a group of scientists racing for an AI breakthrough. Morgan Freeman and Cillian Murphy also appear in supporting roles.
