1. Who Is Carrie Underwood’s Husband, Mike Fisher?

Fisher is a former professional ice hockey player who played center for the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League. In 2017, he retired from the Predators and returned in 2018, signing a one-year contract. By 2019, he retired a second time, soon after his team got eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.

He told the NHL, "I'm glad I came back. It was awesome. Obviously disappointing, but that's the way it goes sometimes. I know this team, they'll learn and grow and be better.”

However, he said he has no plans to come out of retirement again. He added, "I've milked this cow as long as it'll go. It's bone dry."

2. How Did Fisher And Underwood First Meet?

Their first meeting legit sounds like something you’d see in a Hallmark romance. While Carrie wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time, she eventually agreed to meet up with Fisher because her bassist, Mark Childers, also happened to be his friend, and the musician really wanted the two to meet.

It was 2008, and while Underwood was based in Tennessee, Fisher was pursuing his career in Ottawa, Canada. Naturally, the singer had some doubts. She said on VH1’s Behind the Music, "I mean, can I make dating more difficult? Let's get a hockey guy who lives in another country. Awesome."

Still, the pair met during a backstage meet-and-greet event after one of her concerts, and they immediately hit it off. In fact, Underwood recalled thinking he was "hot, hot, hot” when she first laid eyes on the Canadian athlete. And apparently, the feeling was mutual because Fisher also said, “First time I saw her, she was more beautiful in person than on TV.”

3. Is It True That They Dated Long-distance?

We’ve heard it said that long-distance relationships typically never work out, but that certainly wasn’t the case here. Despite their schedules, they stayed in communication with each other for months and, according to the “Cry Pretty” singer, it actually benefited their relationship.

Per Taste of Country, she said, “It’s fun to miss somebody. We talked on the phone for almost three months before we actually got together—that was good for us. Then our first real date was on New Year’s Eve, and our first kiss was when the ball dropped.”

The singer continued, “We can go weeks without seeing each other. He's the only guy I've never had to worry about. Any guy I've ever dated, there would always be that doubt ... 'He didn't answer his phone...what's he doing? It's late.' I'm not the crazy-girlfriend type, but there was a little voice in the back of my head. I don't have to worry about Mike. I don't think twice."

4. When Did They Get Married?

In December 2009, Fisher surprised Underwood by popping the question while they were together in his home (FYI, the engagement ring features a sparkly yellow diamond that’s reportedly worth a cool $150,000).

Just six months later, they tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge in Greensboro, Georgia, which had 250 guests.

5. How Many Children Do They Have?

Underwood gave birth to their first boy, Isaiah Michael Fisher, in February 2015. And in 2019, the couple welcomed their second boy, Jacob Bryan Fisher.

While speaking with E! News, Underwood gushed about her husband’s parenting skills. She said, "My husband is as wonderful as he is hot, and I feel like that's rare. He's amazing. He's such a great dad and he's so supportive of what I do, and I'm supportive of him and we just love our little family."
