Have you ever watched the movie Fight Club and thought: Wow, this would be really good if they replaced the whole cast with a group of high school girls? No? Well, that's basically the plot of the wild new teen comedy, Bottoms, which follows two high school seniors who set up a “fight club” in an effort to hook up with cheerleaders they've been crushing on for quite some time. Check out the trailer below.

Bottoms is directed by Emma Seligman, who splashed onto the scene in 2020 with her directorial debut, Shiva Baby. The film, starring Rachel Sennott, won for Best Screenwriting at Outfest and was awarded the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Now, Seligman is reuniting with Sennott, who stars in—and co-wrote, with Seligman—Bottoms alongside The Bear's Ayo Edebiri. Other cast members include Havana Rose Liu (No Exit), Kaia Gerber (Babylon), Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue) and Dagmara Domińczyk (Succession).

If the plot and winning cast doesn't already have you intrigued, then the glowing reviews might. On Rotten Tomatoes, Bottoms currently has a 97 percent rating, and the critical consensus reads: “Propulsive and over-the-top, Bottoms is an instant high school comedy classic that feels both current and nostalgic.”

Major outlets praised the film, comparing it to a number of teen classics. At Rolling Stone, contributor David Fear wrote, “What Seligman, Sennott and Edebiri have given us is nothing less than a Heathers for this generation. It hits you, and it feels like a kiss.” Meanwhile, at Mashable, Kristy Puchko wrote, “Ready for American Pie to look tame? With Bottoms, Seligman and Sennott, who co-wrote the screenplay, reveal a story that is way wilder, way wackier, and way, way more gay than the typical teen sex comedy churned out by Hollywood.”
