This Emotional Drama Is the Most-Watched Non-English Series on Netflix (with 57 Million Hours Viewed)

Though the Spanish drama series, Alba, premiered on Atresmedia and Boomerang TV back in March 2021, the emotional thriller has already found a new home on Netflix, becoming an instant hit among viewers.

According to a new report, Alba has become the most-watched non-English television series on the streaming platform, amassing more than 57 million hours viewed this week. Let’s not forget to mention it surpassed the South Korean dramas Extraordinary Attorney Woo (with 55 million hours viewed) and Remarriage & Desires (with 31 million hours viewed).

The drama series follows a young college student named Alba (played by Elena Rivera), who awakens on the beach, with no memory from the night before. Soon, she learns that she has fallen victim to sexual assault. Three of the four men who assaulted her are close friends with her boyfriend, Bruno (Eric Masip). With a grueling trial underway and more secrets being brought to the surface, Alba tries to reclaim her life.

At the moment, Netflix has not renewed Alba for a second season. Given the big numbers it’s been pulling (and that cliffhanger ending), a season renewal might be on the horizon. And the streaming platform has given shows like Elite, Who Killed Sarah? and Top Boy a second installment, so it’s worth keeping our fingers crossed.
