There’s a new thriller taking over Netflix and it’s already snagged the #1 spot. Sure, plenty of films have hit that mark before (looking at you, Ruth and Boaz and The Perfect Neighbor), but this one’s sparking more online drama than a season finale cliffhanger. Don’t worry, no spoilers here. Just know the ending has some viewers absolutely fuming.

The film in question? A House of Dynamite.

Directed by Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty), the film centers on a crisis in Washington, D.C., after an unidentified missile is launched toward the U.S. Written by Noah Oppenheim (Zero Day, Jackie), it tracks the 18 tense minutes between the missile’s launch and its potential detonation from several intense, human perspectives.

“We see into the halls of power where highly competent individuals are confronted with confusion, chaos and helplessness,” Bigelow told Netflix. “What would they do? What would I do? The fate of the world hangs in the balance.”

The cast lineup alone is enough to grab your attention with Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Anthony Ramos and more all bringing serious heat to the screen. On paper, it’s a recipe for a blockbuster: big names, high stakes, award-winning pedigree. But then there’s that ending.

Despite solid Rotten Tomatoes numbers (hovering in the 70s), viewers aren’t holding back.

“Don’t waste your time. Its a lackluster film with a lackluster conclusion.”
“Great suspense and tension throughout the movie, but then it came a terrible, horrible, idiotic ending.”
“Strong cast and good format… but omg the ending was horrible.”

It wasn't all bad though, there were a few reviews that praised the new thriller.

"Riveting , edge of your seat thriller with lots of stars."
"It's a 5-star thrill ride that's well worth watching if you love action-packed movies."
"Super stressful but really good to watch. Very thought provoking."

A House of Dynamite is streaming now on Netflix.
