It’s officially July, and you know what that means…a fresh new pick from Reese’s Book Club has landed. This month’s selection? Spectacular Things by Beck Dorey-Stein and, yes, it’s already getting a ton of buzz.

The announcement came right on schedule, along with a short Instagram video featuring Reese Witherspoon herself (looking very coastal chic in a blue pinstriped dress and a sweater draped over her shoulders, naturally). In true Reese fashion, she kept the intro short and sweet. “Sisters, soccer, Mia and Cricket,” she said before diving in with a bit more heart.

“It’s about making big sacrifices for your family,” she shared. “It’s a beautiful read.”

In the caption of the post, Reese added, “Kicking off July with our newest book pick! Spectacular Things by @beckdoreystein follows sisters Mia and Cricket as they navigate an impossible choice that will change everything. Think sisterhood, sacrifice, and the golden age of women’s soccer all wrapped into one epic story.”

The official synopsis, which reads, “Two sisters examine what they owe each other and what they are willing to sacrifice to make their family dreams come true,” echoes that theme.

Readers on Goodreads are singing its praises, with the book earning a strong 4-star rating. One reviewer wrote, “A heart-touching, character-driven novel about two sisters, love, ambition, and sacrifice. What an emotional journey.” Another simply said, “Wow, I loved this book. I loved the story. I loved Cricket and Mia. They are what every sisterhood should experience, IMO.”

Oh, and the timing? Pretty spot on. With the 2025 Women’s World Cup happening right now, a story rooted in sisterhood and soccer feels especially relevant.

Spectacular Things is available for purchase—and I'm excited to get my hands on a copy.
