Sunscreen: Used right, it’s pretty much akin to dipping into the Fountain of Youth. Skip or misuse it (which most people do) and you risk getting literally burned now…and figuratively burned later (with premature wrinkles). Luckily, the fix is simple. Here are the three most important things to remember the next time you pick up your sunscreen bottle.

How to apply it to your back

Those sunscreen sprays are a godsend for reaching the middle of your back. But if you’re stuck with just a simple lotion, there’s an easy way to compromise--use your forearms to cover more surface area in one swipe. A bit of cling wrap (see above) works, too.

How to apply it to your scalp

OK, you’re all but bathed in SPF 80…but neglected to protect your head. At “best” this can dry out your strands and fade your color quickly. At worst, you end up with a red, painful burn all over your noggin. Next time, mix yourself a sunscreen spray (basically, water and lotion combined in a bottle) and mist it onto your hairline to shield your scalp from the rays without having to succumb to hat hair.

How to reapply it on top of makeup

True life: The number of your SPF doesn’t even matter if you’re not reapplying it regularly. But how exactly do you do that without ruining your makeup? Try using a sunscreen setting mist or a cushion compact. Your wrinkle-less existence will be worth the few extra products.
