There are only so many ways to reinvent a sheer manicure. Or so I thought. New York Fashion Week has given us sunglass nails and the industry is abuzz. The sheer nail look made an appearance at Diane von Furstenberg’s highly anticipated return to the runway, where the designer presented a collection filled with the bold colors and prints that have long been synonymous with DVF. Set against New York’s High Line, the collection featured rich browns, striking greens, vibrant patterns and plenty of sheer, flowing fabrics. And if you looked closely, those same colors and textures made their way down to the models’ fingertips. Lead manicurist Miss Pop, working with essie, dubbed the look sunglass nails. It’s very similar to glass nails, but with a tint. The sheer, glossy color allows the natural nail to peek through, much like looking through your favorite pair of tinted shades.
“With the glass nail trend taking over, we wanted to give it a more sheer, modern twist,” Miss Pop explains. “Using light layers of essie paired with the Special Effects line, the nails had a subtle pearlescent finish—effortlessly cool like your favorite pair of sunglasses for a sunglass nail effect.”
