In September, 15-year-old Salish Matter launched her skincare line, Sincerely Yours. What followed made headlines. A crowd of over 80,000 swarmed the American Dream Mall in New Jersey—with some camping overnight—and Sephora shelves were promptly wiped. PureWow beauty editors were wondering…were these products worth the crashout? To find out, I asked Purewow Editor-in-Chief, Jillian Quint, a Millennial, to test the entire product line along with her Gen Alpha daughter. Here’s their review.

What Is Sincerely Yours?

Sincerely Yours is a new Gen Alpha skincare line founded by teen influencer Salish Matter alongside her father, the photographer Jordan Matter. Per the brand’s website, all products are developed by dermatologists in collaboration with cosmetic chemists and is helmed by co-founder and CEO Julia Straus. While Sincerely Yours bills itself as a teen skincare brand, I’ve read chatter that teens think it feels “too young.” Though, after looking and sampling the products myself, I think that critique is more in the eye of the beholder.

Sincerely Yours’ product line consists of four staples: Kindly Clean Hydrating Cleanser, Hit Refresh Soothing Serum Mist, So Soft Daily Moisturizer and Sunny Side Up Mineral Sunscreen. All ingredients are age appropriate and don’t contain actives like retinol, AHAs/BHAs and vitamin C.

How We Tested Sincerely Yours

Quint and her daughter have tested the aforementioned products for over a month. They then rated the collection on the PureWow100 scale for five attributes: aesthetic (did it look nice on the vanity?), formula (was the texture nice? Did it smell good?), ease of application, efficacy and value, for a total score out of 100 points.

Gen Alpha Approves—But Millennials and Gen Z Do, Too

Quint reports that upon seeing the skincare lineup, her 9-year-old proclaimed, “These are so cool!”

“My daughter loves how grown up she feels with these products on display in her room,” Quint says. “When she has friends over, she often invites them to spritz the serum mist or sample the moisturizer. The packaging is very sophisticated (a 28-year-old could happily have these out) and, in fact, I’d say probably too sophisticated-looking for most kids. My 9-year-old likes them, but would be just as happy with something bright and more kid-like.”

As a 28-year-old myself, I can attest that I wouldn’t mind having these on my vanity, either. The soft pastels, minimalist shapes and clean lines make the bottles visually appealing and fun.

Fun Design with Easy and Efficient Application

“The products all feel subtle, clean and good for children’s skin. I appreciate that the mist is extremely mild (the scent and texture evokes a cooling cucumber), that the hydrating cleanser doesn’t dry out skin (I've used it on myself) and that the lotion is thick but not greasy,” Quint says. She tells me that everything is easy to dispense and apply, calling out the moisturizer, which releases the perfect amount via a pump. As far as scents go, Quint reports: “All very subtle, which is what I want as a parent, though I suspect my kid would prefer something stronger.”

The Cons

Beyond the sleek packaging, the Sincerely Yours lineup is essentially offering bare-bones cleanser, moisturizer, hydration mist and sunscreen. Don’t get us wrong—the colors and branding are fun and visually pleasing, but, as Quint put it, rather incredulously, “$85 for four products for a 9-year old!?” Additionally, Quint noted that she was concerned about the effects of exposing tweens to beauty culture at an age where their skin really doesn’t need much maintenance.

The Bottom Line

The grown-up verdict: Sincerely Yours is effective and suitable for youngster skin while having versatility with Gen Z and Millennials. If you’re not too keen on the nearly $90 for four products, this might be something Gen Alpha will need to pay for with their allowance…but, you know, the Fresh Starter 3-Piece Skincare Set ($32) is a mighty fine stocking stuffer.
