Lancôme Juicy Tubes Is Celebrating 25 Years—and This Millennial Editor Is Taking a Trip Down Memory Lane

Yes, it’s still iconic

The year is 2000 Lancôme Juicy Tubes just hit the makeup counter. And for a Y2K kid, too young for lipstick, but looking for a world beyond lip balm, there was nothing cooler than donning the sugary pink high-gloss shade. Just thinking about it takes me back to TRL and that delicious scent of “Marshmallow Electro.” Twenty-five years later, the lip gloss I associate with Britney Spears, my Sidekick 3 and Limited Too sprees (which is also having a resurgence, FYI), is still here and still great. So, in honor of its enduring millennial legacy, let’s take a moment to say “Happy birthday, Juicy Tubes!”

I’m also not the only one on my team who had a flashback moment. When asking editors about their own memory with Juicy Tubes, Executive Editor Alexia Dellner shared, “Oh wow that brings me BACK. I got a trio set for my birthday one year and thought I was so cool. I remember they tasted pretty good but they were very thick and very sticky. But it didn't matter, in my mind I looked like a pop star.”

For Director of Affiliate Strategy Pam Masin, she remembers how it shaped her childhood. “I can instantly transport back to middle school dances thinking of the sweet scent and sparkly bottle of Lancôme’s juicy tubes. It was the first item of makeup I ever owned and I never left the house without it. A sticky swipe of gloss made me feel like I was on Americas Next Top Model. I don’t remember another beauty product that has such a hold on my childhood memories.”

In 2018, Lancôme thought they can quietly discontinued the iconic glosses—and fans were not having it. After overwhelming responses, the brand reintroduced Juicy Tubes to the masses with 20 shades (10 of the original and 10 new shades) in 2020. They even added different finishes (i.e, creamy, shimmery, etc). Today, they still sell the ten OG shades that were a staple in our lives.

Some lip glosses get a bad rap for being too sticky, shiny or glossy—but Lancôme Juicy Tubes is anything but. It continues to provide lasting shine and hydration in a simple squeezable tube. They never changed their style and the vitamin E just makes it a more smoother texture for the 21st century.

While the lip gloss launched at the turn of the millennium, the brand recently used their latest campaign, The Juicy Kissing Web, to drive the nostalgia of the 2000s. I’m talking about celebrities that are the definition of Y2K, from Paris Hilton to Ed Westwick (as Gossip Girl Chuck Bass) and even Hilary Duff who was my queen back then. (No kidding, baby Chelsea wrote her letter and everything.)

There will always be an influx of new lip glosses, balms, hybrids, but Lancôme Juicy Tubes will continue to reign…at least in my books.
