Cheers! Science Says That Couples Who Drink Together Stay Together
Even more reason for date night
We usually hear that the keys to a long and happy relationship are communication, respect and trust--you know, the usual suspects.
But a new study in the Journals of Gerontology might have uncovered a slightly more fun way to keep the magic alive: drinking together.
That’s right, the poll of more than 2,700 couples found the pairs that popped bottles together reported feeling more content in their relationship. According to one of the study’s authors, this could be because couples who spend more leisure time together are typically happier.
Keep in mind, though, that couples that completely abstained from alcohol together experienced the same effects, so you could run into trouble if your drinking habits are incompatible with those of your partner.
So yes, you should keep working on your relationship and pretending you’re interested in the PGA Tour, but it also won’t hurt to do so with a glass of merlot in hand.
