• Material: According to Dr. Tara, the best type of material to choose for a vibrator is medical grade silicone, which offers a softer feel than hard plastics and one of the safest options available (that’s also easy to clean!). It’s also a hypoallergenic material, making it a great choice for sensitive skin. 
• Battery life: As for battery life, Dr. Tara says both battery-powered and USB-powered vibrators are good choices and choosing one or the other won’t affect your experience. 
• Waterproof: You also want to choose a vibrator that’s fully waterproof, rather than just water-resistant, says Dr. Tara. “If it’s waterproof you can use it pretty much anywhere," the expert shares. "You can use it in the shower if you would like, but if it’s water-resistant you don’t want to submerge it…so I would recommend waterproof if it’s available.”
