For those who fancy a Caribbean vacation, look no further than Bridgetown, Barbados. After you’ve finished sunbathing on Browne’s Beach and exploring Carlisle Bay, hop around town to discover the city’s rich history. First stop: the Barbados Museum and Historical Society. The UNESCO World Heritage Property is a former 19th century military prison that now houses over 500,000 artifacts. Separately, there is the Garrison—a former British military base—which is currently the headquarters of the Barbados Defense Force. It is also a public recreation area and home to the Barbados Turf Club, which hosts the popular Gold Cup horse racing event every year. The last itinerary stop is Nidhe Synagogue and Museum, a pastel pink structure which also holds the title of one of the Western Hemisphere’s oldest synagogues. The grounds also include artists’ workshops and a café.

The Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal known for its dazzling beaches and golf courses. Here, you’ll find iconic whitewashed fishing villages perched on hillsides and sparkling crystal waters. The best part? Mild, sunny weather all year round—which means you can honeymoon here any time. The city of Faro is considered the region’s point of entry, and you’ll want to begin your tour at the Arco da Vila, a neoclassical arch that was part of an original Moorish wall. From here, you’ll be led down the old town’s cobbled streets. Stop in at the municipal museum, housed in an 16th century convent, to see the busts of Roman emperors and a second-century mosaic, among other attractions. The 13th-century Faro cathedral is also a can’t-miss example of Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles. To see more of the Algarve, head to the cosmopolitan outpost of Portimão and stop at Lagos, home of the Ponta da Piedade rock formations.

This honeymoon destination has a reputation for glittering white sand beaches and clear blue waters—just the place to go windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and zip lining. The city’s famous Coconut Coast boasts a strip of luxe, all-inclusive resorts where relaxation is the only thing on the itinerary. You’ll want to take a trip out to Saona Island, 12 miles from the mainland. It’s the country’s most significant turtle-nesting site and incredibly popular visitors’ destination. Here, you’ll find towering coconut trees and pristine beaches, as the island is sparsely populated. Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park & Reserve is another locale you don’t want to miss. If any place knows how to have a really good time, it’s Marbella. After all, it’s home to Puerto Banús, a luxury port known for its rollicking nightlife and mega-yachts. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of other things to do besides party every night away. Head back to the city’s Andalusian roots with a stroll through the 15th-century Old Town. It’s rife with shops, cafes and restaurants. Start at Alameda Park and then be sure to hit the Dalí statue, town hall, Moorish walls and Marbella castle as you weave your way through the streets. The Iglesia De La Encarnación is another point of interest, as the 17th-century church was built on top of a mosque, thus retaining those style elements in addition to its Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Early birds will like to start their mornings meandering down the promenade before the crowds arrive. Grab a coffee from one of the vendors and wander along the beach.

St. Moritz is where the rich (and sometimes famous) go to play in the wintertime. And now, you can too. While you can visit in warmer months, it’s nearly a disservice not to visit in the winter, seeing as the town has hosted the winter Olympics twice. Aside from the usual cold-weather activities like skiing and ice skating, you must pay a visit to Badrutt’s Palace, a legendary hotel, if not to stay then at least to eat. The place to be is King’s Social House, where the dress code is dress to impress.  And for an unforgettable spa experience, you’ll want to book yourselves into Ovaverva, which offers panoramic views of the Upper Engadine mountain in addition to beauty treatments, massages and saunas.

Say the words “European honeymoon” and Paris, London and Rome will instantly fly to mind. But how about Copenhagen? The Danish capital promises everything you love about the continent, but with its own flair. Start with Rosenborg Castle in the city center. Built in the 1600s as a summerhouse for Christian IV, it now houses the Danish treasury. Continue on to the National Museum of Denmark’s Copenhagen outpost, one of many across the country. Here, you can discover Denmark’s origins, from prehistory to the Vikings, Middle Ages and the Renaissance. As for that promised out-of-the-box experience, look no further than CopenHill, a heat and power waste-to-energy plant. The cool caveat: It’s also a recreation facility with some of the best views in the city. So if you fancy skiing, snowboarding, sledding, climbing and rappelling in an urban oasis, look no further.

The defintion of “multicultural” is probably the island of Djerba in Tunisia. If you want a truly unique honeymoon, come explore its Mediterranean beaches and whitewashed desert towns, all strongly influenced by an amalgamation of Berber, Arab, Jewish and African cultures. Put these three towns on your itinerary: Houmt Souk, Borj el Kebir and Midoun. The first is the island’s main city, and Old Town is rife with vendors hawking hand-painted pottery, jewelry and carpets. Though if you’re a ceramics fanatic, the village of Guellala is really the place to be. It’s home to hundreds of potters known for their creations. You’ll also want to spend some time in the 16th-century fishing village of Borj el Kebir—climb the ramparts for amazing views. Lastly, foodies will appreciate, Midoun, a market town known for its restaurants that serve a mixture of Spanish, French, Moroccan and Sudanese flavors.

Paris, the City of Love, is still a popular honeymoon destination—with good reason. The architecture is beautiful, the food is renowned and there’s never a dull moment, from the Louvre Museum to walking on the Seine and seeing a show at the Moulin Rouge. But if you want a local’s experience, you’re best off strolling the artsy neighborhood of Canal Saint Martin (with a stop for pastries at Du Pain et Des Idées) or the up-and-coming La Villette in the 19th arrondissement.
