If you’re less into leaf-peeping and more into seance-hosting this fall, then Airbnb has a place for you. Over the past decade, reviews for certain listings have spiked with mentions of “spooky” and “haunted,” making them the perfect autumn getaways for adrenaline junkies come October. Ready to channel your inner Zak Bagans for some Ghost Adventures of your own? From a mirror-covered house in the woods to a former morgue (yes, you read that right), here are 15 Airbnbs that were designed to send chills down your spine.

20 Vacation Rentals Perfect for a Fall Getaway

  • Sleeps: 6 people
  • Price Per Night: $167/night

This stay comes with a warning: no refunds if you leave mid-stay; some may get scared. Once a functioning morgue—and later a funeral home, church and museum—this property guarantees a spooky atmosphere, complete with an early 1900s claw-foot tub and a loft to rest after paranormal encounters. The owner even provides research gear for you to ghost hunt, and says, “Some have had haunted happenings… there may be unexplained encounters.”

  • Sleeps: 2 people
  • Price Per Night: $133/night

Perched on a hill deep in the woods, this off-grid cabin is covered floor-to-ceiling in mirrors (I can almost feel jump scares emerging from the photos). With no electricity, an outhouse nearby, and dreamlike mirrors at every turn, the whole cabin feels like something out of a Tim Burton fever dream. Not to mention that the host provides art supplies for crafting—perfect for re-creating a backdrop from Edward Scissorhands.

  • Sleeps: 4 people
  • Price Per Night: $193/night

Once a stagecoach stop, then a brothel and later a morgue—this B&B was featured on Ghost Adventures for good reason. You’ll have the entire second floor to yourself, including a restored five-room suite and a chilling, 11-room area that’s stuck in time (no electricity, no AC, just there for the spooky vibes). Ghost-hunting gear is also provided, and according to the owner: “You will be introduced to our permanent tenants (spirits), such as Willie, Pink Rosebud, Itzy, Sam and even the murderer.” Sounds like a party!

  • Sleeps: 4 people
  • Price Per Night: $183/night

Want to feel like you’ve stepped into a Panic! at the Disco music video? This Victorian, steampunk-inspired B&B is just the ticket. The inside features a retro fish tank and tons of old-world accents, making it feel somewhere between a haunted 1800s mansion and a futuristic spaceship. Even better: There’s a private en-suite bathroom to relax in after a day of exploring.

  • Sleeps: 4 people
  • Price Per Night: $302/night

If you’ve ever wanted to live inside an 18th-century period film, here’s your chance—this cottage was a filming location for Robert Redford’s The Conspirator. Known for its charm and frequent ghost tour visits, this 1799 cabin sits in Savannah's Historic District, complete with exposed pine beams and antiques throughout. Pro tip: Sit on the porch and watch horse-drawn carriages clip-clop by for the full time warp experience.

A very spooky room from a spooky airbnb in Colorado.
  • Sleeps: 3
  • Price: from $157/night

Wild West meets spooky at this haunted spot, which was rebuilt as a brothel, casino and saloon after being burned to the ground in an 1899 fire. Legend has it that the place is currently haunted by the ghost of a local miner who died in a gunfight. This particular room is themed after an English bogeyman figure, Black Annis, and features all kinds of spooky decor—including creepy artwork, authentic taxidermy and other oddities. If you’re looking for an eccentric stay, this one fits the bill.

  • Sleeps: 12
  • Price: from $999/night

This historic mansion, located in a peaceful suburb of Baltimore, has a rich and rather spooky story that started with a fire, followed by significant renovations and a lot of bad luck. The original owner and patriarch of the family died in the home, as did a child. You’ll notice that there are no guest reviews and the listing makes no mention of the property’s haunting history, but perhaps that’s on account of some rebranding efforts. Indeed, internet sources suggest that more than a few guests have experienced paranormal activity on the premises—though any lingering ghosts are likely just there to reunite with family members, not to torment visitors.

  • Sleeps: 2
  • Price: from $120/night

Located near Lafayette Cemetery, this iconic New Orleans mansion is rumored to be haunted by a shy and harmless ghost—specifically a little girl in a yellow dress who died in the 1890s. Prior guests swear they’ve seen her, but whether or not she decides to pay a visit to your queen-sized haunted bedroom (with dedicated bathroom) is anybody’s guess. Regardless, you won’t be disappointed by the rich history, antique decor and incredible character of this centrally-located NOLA stay.

  • Sleeps: 6
  • Price: from $253/night

No surprise here: the deadliest war in American history did indeed yield some haunted houses—like this Civil War farmhouse, which previously functioned as a field hospital and refuge for soldiers, including one General Reynolds who enjoyed breakfast there on the first day of battle (and the last day of his life). The property isn’t entirely defined by its ghostly past, though; in fact, it boasts many modern amenities, including a (seasonal) heated pool, record player and HDTV. That said, if you’re on a ghost-hunting mission, I suggest you opt for a tech-free stay so you can better listen for the howling of fallen soldiers.

  • Sleeps: 2
  • Price: from $79/night

Per the reviews, this historic home in Saint Paul is absolutely beautiful and full of eccentric details. The oh-so accommodating hosts will happily indulge you with ghost stories, and there’s plenty of opportunity for paranormal investigations to be had on the property, which was once dubbed the most mysterious house in Saint Paul—a title that the owners and guests alike deem to be earned. There’s no specific ghost story behind this mansion, but it is the perfect place to find one of your own, as it is known to host ghost hunting expeditions, occult rituals, murder mystery dinners and more.

  • Sleeps: 2
  • Price: from $177/night

If the name ‘cemetery schoolhouse’ doesn’t have you spooked already, you’re made of tougher stuff than me. This converted classroom in a 1900 schoolhouse sits on an expansive, parklike and very isolated plot of land that doubles as a cemetery for the numerous artists, inventors and titans of industry who were laid to rest here. The Asian Room is particularly spooky (or spiritual, really) as it has been built around an 18th century Opium Wedding bed. Make what you will of the experience here, but if you’re a history buff, you will not be disappointed by your stay.

  • Sleeps: 12
  • Price: from $983/night

Salem is a notoriously spooky destination on the coast of Massachusetts, and the Henry Derby House is arguably the best Airbnb in Salem for those looking to have a paranormal encounter. In fact, the host has even included a disclaimer in the listing: “This is an antique house over 180 years old. Do not expect it to look or feel like a hotel when you arrive. The stairs will creak, the windows will rattle when it's windy, and you may experience paranormal activity in the house during your stay. If you are not comfortable for any reason during your stay please contact me immediately.” Owner Phil Marchand grew up in the home and is one of several to have heard some pretty spooky stuff, like footsteps from the third floor and even sightings of a teenage ghost with long hair. (Reviewers confirm, with one reporting “foot steps in attic, scratching at the door and bed shaking,” and another saying that her friend who slept on the second floor “felt a cat walk across her.”)

  • Sleeps: 10
  • Price: from $362/night

Located in historic Amador County—part of California’s Gold Country and now also home to some pretty stellar wineries—this haunted hangout stands out for its charming character and (you guessed it) quirky paranormal activity. Per the host, “the house is haunted but mostly you will just hear occasional bangs or stomps or other non-threatening activity. Sometimes a light or appliance won't work one day, and it will work the next. Basically, we have an annoyance who has a bit of a trickster side, but as long as you respect the house and me, they are happy to have guests and are actually very welcoming.” As for the guest reviews, some say their stay was “every bit as spooky as advertised,” while others were disappointed that no unearthly visitors stopped by.

  • Sleeps: 4
  • Price: from $362/night

Built on a former Native American burial ground, the Montauk Manor has long been rumored to be haunted by a Native American chief. Some guests have reported hearing drumming noises and slamming doors, while others claim to have actually seen the apparition of said chief. Reviews of this particular unit don’t make mention of any paranormal activity, but maybe if you know what to listen (and look) for, you will have a spooky experience to share. Regardless, all guests give the rental high praise for its vintage charm, scenic location and updated amenities.

  • Sleeps: 2
  • Price: from $205/night

This former finishing school is said to be haunted by its headmistress of yore. Now, the Queen Anne is a Victorian-style boutique hotel that delights its guests with the possibility of spooky paranormal activity, as well as its rich history. Indeed, the Queen Anne is a popular spot for ghost hunting, and if you really want some extra thrills, I suggest you book room 410, which is the former office of said headmistress and the room where you’re most likely to encounter her ghost. Beyond that, much of the hotel’s charm comes from the fact that it has been lovingly renovated without sacrificing the Victorian feel of the original building.
